I'm not counting Wilcox yet because I don't know how good he will be, starting means nothing if he sucks.
Well to be fair they are all rookies so we probably shouldn't be counting any of them yet. Although I feel pretty comfortable in saying Frederick will have a long and productive career here. He just has the right skill set to be a 13 year starting NFL center.

It's been a major weakness at times this year but it has also been a major strength at times this year. Overall the D-line play hasn't been the biggest problem with the defense this year. It's has been absolutely horrific coverage at times. Which I was impressed against the Skins with regards to our coverage. We saw a lot more man coverage which isn't exactly a Kiffin hallmark but our corners seem to play better when they are allowed to press and man up.
I think the DL has been the biggest problem, unless superceded by poor tackling from the linebackers and secondary in general. But not really coverage.

Correct. It's nice to not completely whiff on a draft... but sad that we are excited that it looks like we got two players out of it, Wow!

We need a draft where we hit on four or five guys. A draft that had landed us Sharrif Floyd, Travis Frederick, and Terrance Williams would have been better, even. Hopefully Wilcox and Webb turn into long term pieces so we don't have to keep spending high picks on DBs at least.
Let's pump the brakes on Floyd for a bit. I like the player too, but he hasn't played a snap in the NFL and is now coming off a major knee injury. Not fair to compare him to players who have played poorly or little like Escobar.

It is amazing that we didn't abandon the run last night, without Murray. Especially since we did it quite a few times the year, while he was healthy. Kudos to the coaching staff.
Ummmmm, what?

In which universe did we not abandon the run?

I feel comfortable in saying that Wilcox will be off the roster in 3 years and out of the league in 4.

He was pretty bad last night.

I have been told otherwise a few months ago.

Sharrif Floyd? He's played. He has a sack and a half in the last two games as well.

My bad, I thought he tore his knee up in preseason.

Either way, I'm not convinced Frederick would be there in the 2nd for us. I'd still rather have him and the rotation at DT over Floyd and Costa at C. Costa doesn't carry Randle into the endzone last night.

Yeah, I don't know that he would have been. Seems very "possible" though I don't know if I would say "guaranteed." Maybe "likely."

Would have been nice if that could have been the case though.

I will say, though, that had we taken Floyd I would have tried my hardest to trade up in the 2nd to get Frederick. He was a pet cat of mine so that's an easy decision for me, but that's the only way I could have seen it play out. Too many teams between our 1st and 2nd pick and OL were flying off the board that day.

I think we absolutely abandoned the run last night. We didn't go back to it until we were up by 15, that's where most of our carries came from.

I found last night's complete disregard for the run, especially on that drive where we went spread the entire time, to be much more egregious and arrogant than, frankly, any other time you guys have complained about abandoning the run.

I thought it was extremely arrogant and a poor decision given the Redskins run defense, the time left, the lead we qhad, and the fact that Romo looked off and needed to be calmed.

It worked out by getting us a FG but I thought it was a very poor decision.

Final game last year was much more egregious.

I'm not convinced Frederick would've been there either, of course if you asked would I prefer Floyd/Frederick or Frederick/POS Escobar the decision is obvious but in hindsight waiting on Frederick isn't a risk I'd be willing to take.

I agree about trading up in the 2nd for him though, if we had taken someone else in the first he was my first choice at 47 so I would've been all for trading up for him.

At any rate, it's all water under the bridge, the fact of the matter is we have ourselves a stabilizer at center for the next 10 years.

How about Travis Frederick/Larry Warford/Terrance Williams/John Jenkins/BW Webb

Much better.

The play of Floyd so far this season doesn't really have me crying in my pillow at night either. Not to say he has been a bad player by any means but I also don't think he has shown me elite ability at this point either.

We can probably name 30 guys who we'd like better than the Escobar pick because we are all down on him right now. Warford wasn't on our board though (for some reason).

That is exactly right. The Escobar pick was trash from the second we made it. We all knew it.

It's funny, in Jason Witten's rookie season he only topped 50 yards in a game once, and took until week 16 to score a TD (coincidentally on his longest reception of the year, a whopping 36 yards). He had exactly four games in which he caught more than three passes on a team where our options were stars like Antonio Bryant, Joey Galloway's bum leg, Terry Glenn and of course the great Dan Campbell. He played in 15 games, averaged 2 receptions and 20 yards per game.

But ya'll know better. Escobar with a 16.5 YPR average, 3 first downs on four catches and a TD is never gonna amount to anything. Prognosticator of pronosticators.
