It’s true Coopers contract lets us out in 2022 with 6mil in dead money.I think the best plan would be to resign Gallup. If anything I'd consider moving on from Cooper in a couple of years to save cap space. Ideally I keep all 3 receivers until Lamb is requiring a new deal. Then I part with Cooper. Luckily we have Lamb for a few more years before we need to consider that.
But Gallup, like Sammy Watkins after his Rams stint, is going to demand #1 money but he’s not a true #1 WR like Cooper has consistently been. He will be nearly as expensive as Amari, and likely when combined with Coopers dead money will take up as much money.
And money aside, Cooper has been the better player. Isn’t it better to have the better player?
Pitts gives us the kind of intermediate threat that keeps the chains moving and Dak from getting hit. He can also hit big plays, run away from defenders, and is plain crazy in the red zone. The TEs we have now are serviceable, but Pitts can’t be covered. Talent wise Pitts is a huge upgrade.
Anyways as Pitts’ combine results come in he probably won’t fall to us anyway.
