It'd be nice to entice someone like Wes Phillips or Adam Stenavich to come over for play-calling duties, since they're the "OC's" in Minnesota and Green Bay but don't actually call plays.

But those kind of guys are going to be in demand and I don't see a scenario where this cheap shit FO is willing to do what it takes both in terms of money and aggressiveness to bring someone over like that.

Are their contracts even up? Doubt their teams would let them make a lateral move anyway.

Maybe just take a chance and make Wes HC. Is Wade too old to run a defense? :tippytoe

I'm dreaming, but seriously, even with Jerry that would be an amazing combo. Micah might break Strahan's record with Wade as DC, and I'm not at all joking.

Just to add something I heard on the radio this morning, George Dunham on the Ticket pays attention and does have contacts in the building. He said he was told a couple weeks ago that it was 50/50 whether Mike comes back, but that now he thinks Jerry would like him back. It's others in the building who don't want that.

Who would that be? A McClay? Does McClay think he's not using his picks well or something? I can't think of many others who would even have enough stature to influence Jerry. I doubt it's Stephen... when Mike was hired, I felt like Stephen was a bigger fan of Mike than Jerry was. I guess opinions can change, though.

Also, Sham was saying yesterday how much Mike, and especially his family, loves living in Dallas. Doesn't want to uproot kids who love their schools, etc. But if Jerry tried to keep him but make him hire another playcaller, doesn't know that Mike would go for that.

It'd likely be whoever is willing to take their scraps of a contract, just like in FA, so basically Kellen Moore.
That's exactly what we would do.

Fuck that...I'll gladly take a few more years of McCarthy over that foolishness.

The only thing that makes me mad at the moment is how poorly the organization is being run. I actually only want one change and that is Solari. Now my anger will grow if Mike goes elsewhere and I didn't think it would be this way when they hired him. I think it's more of a case of the devil you know than the one you dont.
And here's the thing, we didn't even see the best that the devil we know has to offer as he's never been allowed to operate under optimal conditions.

Mike McCarthy might very well be the best that we can hope for under the Jones Family Circus.

He is by far the best coach we've had not named Jimmy Johnson/Bill Parcells.

And he's the ONLY coach since the 90s dynasty to make it to the playoffs 3 straight seasons.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I don't think anybody else could do a better job working under the current conditions.

I think even Jerry realizes this on some level.

I think the problem is Jerry knows bringing Mike back it's a very hard sell to fans. I think that's ultimately why someone new comes in. They've already told us they aren't spending money this year either, so they need something new to sell.

Mike: You did nothing to help me last off-season!
Jerry: Well your teams are a penalty-ridden mess!

pause

Jerry: Let's blame injuries instead of ourselves. Welcome back.

He’s not concerned at all. He knows fans will continue to buy. Wasn’t a “hard sell” bringing back Garrett multiple times over. He just cameo’d on Landman. He’s loving a cheerleader getting nailed by a football

But, if he’s actually intent on trying to sell McCarthys return to fans, hopefully he’ll be more motivated to get off his ass and do something in FA.

I still think Garrett was a special, unique case. Family portrait and all.

Plus, Garrett had the whole DFW media selling him. Mike is generally liked, but not in the same way.

If he’s actually intent on trying to sell McCarthys return to fans, hopefully he’ll be more motivated to make a big splash in FA.
You'd think, but Cheap Son pretty much already told us to expect another FA year like the last one.

Feh. He’ll tell McCarthy to lose weight like Brian Daboll.

New and improved! Look at those ankles in those jeggings!

Most teams are already putting in requests for interviews on Monday afternoon, if these shitbags "might" make a decision within the first week I don't even know what you say to that if they let it drag past about this time next week.
There’s little hope for this team to be competitive enough to get past a one and done playoff appearance in the next couple years with the way the Jones “brain trust” has handled FA, the draft, and coaching decisions and I see zero reason to believe any of that thinking will change.

It’s just a matter of time before Jones comes out of hibernation again and tells us all the bargain shopping they gotta do because of the cap and then starts claiming all the good things they saw in the seven wins this team had in 2024. While there may have been a few positives, the roster has numerous holes in it and everyone knows PT and Rosie will try to fill it with reaches and underperforming draft picks.
Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, it’s all the same shit different day.

No hibernation needed. Stephen has already been saying the cap is going to be tight again.

I think I agree with this, there's been too many subtle indicators that Jerry is comfortable bringing McCarthy (and probably Zimmer) back.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry wants to twist McCarthy's arm into giving up play calling to someone like Wes Phillips.
We need a better OC, and another QB coach who can hopefully wring something else out of Dak.

Under McCarthy calling the plays, I believe we cratered in RZ efficiency. Obviously there’s personnel issues that play into that, but that leads to my other issue with him.

If he’s got so much say with the personnel it should have never taken as long to get Dowdle as the lead back among many other things. I just don’t think McCarthy is all that great as a play caller or talent guy.

At least Cinci and GB have gone places with their HCs thanks to a solid management team and solid QB play.
McCarthy? Eh, not so much.
