We've been saying that Payton and Fatso are basically the same coach, but one just rode a pure rookie QB to the playoffs.
And he's probably about to get whupped in the first round, too.

Have you seen their schedule? I'd say that probably had more to do with it. Wins against the Bucs, Jets, Raiders X2, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Browns, Colts, and the Chiefs bench.

Garrett and Dak went to the playoffs in Dak's rookie year, too. So that's not much of a flex. And in response to your point above, Dak was the 8th QB taken that year.

Yep, maybe Broncos ownership will max out the talent on the team while he's on the cheap rookie deal (not sure how long Wilson's deal eats up space) but I suspect they'll never go deep in the playoffs with Nix. Kind of like here.

He beat two eventual playoff teams? Payton did a better coaching job than I thought.

Terrible analogy. Dak inherited a much better situation in 2016, namely a stellar o-line and a phenomenal RB. Good skill position players too. In short, a better overall team. When Mike accomplishes what Payton or Red did, he'll get complimented.

Don't be surprised to see Denver playing in China in the future considering their ownership.

I mean first off I think Payton is a better offensive coach than McCarthy is. But the Broncos were an absolute hot mess last year under Payton. And he hand picked Nix, I don't care if he was the fifth QB. He was the QB that Payton wanted and he knows his QBs apparently because he was god awful with Short Stuff.

I like McCarthy so I mean no offense by it but if all things being equal I'd rather have Sean Payton as much coach. I just think he is a brighter offensive mind and he knows QBs as well as anyone.

This tells you everything you need to know about the real motivations of the front office.

There's no salary cap for coaches.

So anytime they try to pretend the reason they don't sign free agents is because of the salary cap, don't believe them.

They don't pay for top coaches even when there's no cap stopping them.

They are liars.

I think it is interesting that the players recognize that McCarthy doesn't really run the show. My guess is it's a reflection of being told who is or isn't going to play on a weekly basis. Clearly guys on the roster recognize that McCarthy doesn't have full authority to run the team the way he wants to run the team.

Yep, for the folks that claim the cap and Daks contract are the reason we don't spend money I think this sort of shows the true reasons why we don't spend money. The Cowboys will just use whatever excuse they can to not spend money. They are just cheap.

:lol

Funny how people can try to make anything sound better to try and justify their stance.

Also, this wasn't in any way shape or form an attempt to "compliment" Mike. It was to show that Denver and Nix aren't nearly as impressive as you're trying to make them out to be.

Yeah, that's about as strong as I've ever heard a current player say something like that.

I wonder what the player is even thinking of... In what ways is Mike not able to run the team the way he wants?

My guess wouldn't be as much who will play each week, but how to run practices, not having too hard a camp so players don't get hurt, that kind of thing. But who knows. Of course I'm sure Jerry makes it known he wants his highest-paid players getting the ball.

Again, it's pathetic that this has gone on for years and no one from our local press will tell us. There's no way they don't hear these things.

“I only think it’s fair if he gets one more shot but more on his terms from the standpoint of really being able to run it how he wants.” He went on to say “ Whoever else you go with there’s going to be an ‘unknown’ but he did build something pretty good over the last 5 years with one hand behind his back because it’s not easy being a head coach here but it’s worth it because it’s the number one brand in sports. “

This has been my contention all along. Anyone else they get is going to be dealing with the same shortcomings. I'm shocked we won 8 games. That being said, I think he has arced here and there's no real benefit to bringing him back other than maybe economics and comfortability, which are not good reasons.
