In all seriousness what do you think would prevent a whole new coaching staff? It's a high bar at this point. We know winning 12 games and being NFC East champs won't cut it. It's going to take some real post season success. Of course the embarrassing exit this year sort of turned up the pressure 1000 fold. Had we lost to the Packers on some last second fluke play, it may have bought some more grace. But the absolute and total collapse against a young, low level playoff team was inexcusable.

Three straight 12 win seasons almost dooms McCarthy unless he makes the NFC Championship game. You better be a top 4 NFL team next year. Those aren't great odds.
My heart tells me only an NFCC appearance at the least, I think Jerry/Stephen might talk themselves into extending McCarthy if we win the division and lose a close one in the divisional round against an elite team.

With that said, I think the chances of McCarthy being gone after next year are at least 75-80%.

I'd prefer Rivera to Whitt anyway I think, although I don't think any of it really matters because we're going to be hiring a brand new coaching staff in approximately 11 months and 2 weeks.
You want Jack Del Rio in here?

Shit. I think I might have cursed it.

Yeah, I'm usually on the more optimistic side of things and even I don't see next year going well.

What's sad is that going, say, 10-7 and winning a playoff game would be seen as a huge failure. Where with a new coach, most fans would see that as a good sign. Like you say, the bar is almost unrealistic.

I'm the king of talking about how Jerry hates paying coaches to sit at home, but even I'm surprised he didn't make a move this year. How does he not see that this is set up for a disaster...

If they cannot make a SB, I wouldn’t rule out an automatic new regime. Winning an extra playoff game should not move the needle.

I think making it to the NFCC would suffice, first time in nearly 30 years, so on and so forth, but that should be the bare minimum. Depending on how things shake out I could see Jerry saying fuck it even if we make the NFCC but lose in embarrassing fashion.

Maybe it's unrealistic in a vacuum but not in the grand scheme when you consider that we've been one of the best regular season teams in the league over the last three years and tripped over our dicks in the playoffs 2/3 times.

But maybe they were well coached to be one of those better regular season teams. Who knows if a new coach gets any more out of them in the playoffs, especially Dak.

And I'd still say we only blew it one year out of three, not that I'm excusing the one time.

I'm not entirely sure why Quinn would want that gig.

Maybe he does the math that he will get to pick his own QB and he thinks the defense is close to talented enough.
Seattle didn’t bite. The only offer on the table.

Yup, literally just said that.

Maybe he overvalued his stock for two years, and then had to take the only offer he got before he got pidgeonholed as a DC forever.
I think the Cowboys' defensive collapse in the playoffs hurt his chances in more desirable spots, like Seattle, which seemingly made a lot of sense.
