Extending Pickens

What is he getting wrong? He already said the front office is playing this perfectly.

That we'd be negotiating against ourselves, if a team signs him the price is set.

The only scenario that makes some sense is if teams are somewhat interested but want to work out compensation with us ahead of time below the two 1's.

I also don't agree that no team would ever offer their one. Not even a team at the bottom like New England?

Well, that was his Denver scenario. I also agree that no one is forking over a #1 due to his "priors."

I could see a team in the 25-30 range offering their 1, which I bet is the scenario the FO is curious to see whether it could happen.

I think the real reason for the non exclusive is that it might set the market for us, if teams are only offering around 32-34 that would be very valuable knowledge.

The really interesting scenario with the Broncos specifically would be what if we could send them Pickens for a 2 and Ja'Quan McMillan?

He said if Denver signs him to a contract.

At that point there's no negotiation for a trade. Dallas then just decides if they want to match the contract and keep him or take the compensation of 2 firsts that is mandated by the league for this exact scenario.

Exactly.

There is a scenario where a team can offer a trade ahead of time in exchange for exclusive negotiations with the player.

That's not what Mosher said. Mosher said Denver literally signs him to an offer sheet and then offers Dallas a second for him.

At that point Dallas could do nothing and get 2 firsts. Why in the world would they take one second?

Hence, Mosher is stupid.

He even knows it would be 2 firsts. I think. His stupidity has confused me.

Me too. I'm pretty much dumber just entertaining this idiocy.
:lol

A team could come along and say to Dallas, "hey we want to negotiate with Pickens, but it's not going to happen if we'd owe you two firsts. So we're willing to offer you a 2nd in exchange for his rights." Dallas would then not have the right to match whatever offer they make to Pickens.

That could happen and has happened before.

Mosher's scenario is that a team comes along, negotiates and signs Pickens to an offer sheet. Then offers Dallas a 2nd. And then Dallas has the choice of matching the contract or accepting a 2nd rounder as compensation. Despite the fact that Dallas could do nothing and get 2 firsts from the other team.

It's a brain dead retarded scenario and we're all dumber for having let it seep into our brains.

But if they do that there's no choice of matching.

His scenario still doesn't work.
I think he finally realized his moment of football ignorance and is now trying to somehow save face. I guess. Hell, I don't know. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what the world would look like if you could just say, "Hah, we signed him and now you got to take a second! Dumbasses! HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

That was absolutely not his scenario.

Quote, "signed him to a $38M/year deal....".

Yeah he is retarded. Because the 38 mil a year and matching never comes in to play. You don't have to match or accept a second round pick. You actually never have to match anything at that point.

I will say this about Pickens, he has a different kind of personality. I don't know that he is going to react and behave the way other players react and behave to the franchise tag. Just like I think you'll get the same Pickens (Good and bad) regardless of him making 3 mil a year or 30 mil a year. I think the guy just is who he is. Hyper competitive but just happy to be playing football and getting good balls thrown his way.
