Extending Pickens

All I can say is that Pickens is like frozen orange juice or like pork bellies, which are used to make bacon.
Such as in a Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich

"Coach Brian Schottenheimer alluded to Pickens still being late to things, and multiple sources said Pickens was fined during the season."

I'd say he's 50/50 to be a Cowboy this year with the most likely scenario being playing out the year disgruntled with a franchise tag.

This worries me.

Something tells me this stuff is why the Cowboys will franchise him but not extend him. I'd like to think it would just drive his price down and we would get a 4 year deal done with an out after like 2 years. But we all know these excuses Jerry will make about how he needs to show he is a leader first or some bullshit.

Maybe I need to start looking at the WR's in the draft closer.

I mean why would we waste a 3rd rounder on a guy as a rental for 1 year… I would consider this as if he was the final piece to a championship team but we all know 2025 was not even remotely close to that…I believe they have have bigger plans for him …if not I feel it was a complete waste of a 3rd rounder..

Pretty sure we'd get the 3rd rounder back if we let him leave.

It'd be kind of awesome if we could add a 1, even a very late 1 in this class for Pickens, while actually spending on 2-3 legit defensive FA's.

Just take a guy like Lemon at 12 and we'd still have two more 1's for the defense.

The problem is that would require these idiots to show urgency to coordinate all this within the next 3ish weeks, while also obviously spending in FA.

They haven't done either of those things in basically 10-15 years, so good luck with that.

It has to be done before free agency to make any sense. And you have to actually spend that money in free agency to fill the holes on defense.

I think I'm drafting Malachi Fields to replace Pickens. Wouldn't even cost us pick 12 or 20. But he is the closest thing physically to Pickens in this draft.

If it's me I'm keeping Pickens unless I'm overwhelmed with a trade offer, and by overwhelmed I mean a first PLUS like a 2nd or better.

We can keep Pickens and improve the defense at the same time. Worry about the cap in 3-4 years when Dak is over the hill or retired.

The only reason to swap Pickens for a rookie first round pick (if all you get in return for Pickens is a first) is to be cheaper at WR. Otherwise you're ultimately getting worse at WR next season. No one is going to give you what Pickens did last year as a rookie. There is no Randy Moss in this draft.

So ultimately if you trade Pickens you better be signing 35 mil in free agents in addition to what you were already going to spend.

Exactly.
