And? Wagner is 7 years older than Brooks. That's 7 more years of wear. It's a dumb comparison. No offense, Geng. Both guys would be on 1 year contracts. So either way its probably a one year deal.

If they are of equal quality, sure, you'd rather have the 3 tech than the LB. But they aren't of equal quality. Brooks is much better. He isn't just "good", he was first team All Pro just last year. Osa is not and never will be that.I wouldn't have either. But that's because a really good 3 tech is worth more than a really good LBer. That's not a knock on Brooks. He is a good player. But you can see the value difference in the types of contracts these guys receive.
Not sure why Pickens is relevant. I mentioned Osa because that's in effect what we'd be doing, using the third we got for Osa. Also not sure why Miami's motivation matters. If he's avaliable, he's available. No, I would not have.
But regardless that's faulty logic because circumstances change and are different for everyone.
So for example, we traded a 3rd for Pickens. Would you take a 3rd for him now? Obviously not.
Miami's not trying to be in a position where a guy like Brooks is helping them win. They're resetting.
Yeah a third is premium. We'd be dumb to give that up for a LB. It's not a premium position.
We're looking to acquire him because we have almost no one at the position and we're desperate. Not because it would significantly elevate the defense.
I'd far, far rather draft a guy at 92 who I think could pretty quickly get to a competent level and could be with the team for the next 10 years.
I wouldn't want to do 112 either but I'd be more ok with it.
But you were comparing signing Dean or Walker with trading for Brooks, and I'm just saying don't forget we're giving up a draft pick if we get Brooks.
That makes it not a 1 to 1 comparison.
It's also the same reason why if Osa's value was a third. Brooks value isn't as high.

People aren't jumping to sign him because he is 35 years old. It's that simple. If Wagner were 28, teams would be wanting him as much as I want Brooks. But, they aren't because he is on the backside of his career. I actually thought you were joking the first time you said it. I guess not.The point is that you can throw the amount of tackles a guy had all you want but it's a bad measuring stick. Wagner had a lot too and I don't see anyone jumping to sign him.

I'm not sure what would be a better measure for a LBer than tackles. It's easily the most important metric. A LBer that is constantly around the ball is not only indicative of speed and tackling ability, but (and even more importantly) it shows the level of mental acuity you want from a LBer. Smarts and being able to read a play and react is paramount for a good LBer.
Substitute the name Pickens with Wagner and you are arguing my point about Wagner.Pickens is relevant because you're comparing apples to oranges. A player's value changes with the circumstances.

Then what is?Jaylon Smith put up 154 tackles in 2020.
It's not a good measure of a LB's quality.

It's definitely not 1:1 but I also think Brooks is probably a bit better than both of them, especially given Dean's injury history.
It matters to Miami but I don't see why it matters to us.Pickens is relevant because you're comparing apples to oranges. A player's value changes with the circumstances.
It's the same reason Miami's motivation matters. The price goes down with how badly a team wants to get rid of the guy.

Because it affects what they're willing to accept.
How about mediocre coverage ability and he is going to want pie? That's all you got? Come on, man.
