I think he easily goes top 20 and maybe top 15. I'd have to hold my nose a bit if I took him at 12 but after the top Mohicans he might be the best of the remaining defenders if we can't trade out.

The good news is he's really really good.

He is really good. And I think he could actually be a real ball hawk if you play him as a FS. But he can also play in the box. I really like his instincts and ability to read what is going on. The 4.36 or whatever speed is just an added bonus for me. Means I don't have to worry about his speed holding him back at all.

I think he goes 18 if still available. So I look at this as, maybe a small trade down. But not crazy at 12 either if no one will trade at a reasonable value.

I had him in the conversation at 20 before that Combine, when he blew up there I elevated him to my main emergency backup at 12 if all else fails.

Maybe someone like Thieneman drops, but if not and we're picking between Hood, Johnson, Cisse and Ponds at 20?

We can get one at 35, same for Rodriguez, Hill and Allen. Same for Parker, Howell, Mason Thomas, etc.

If I can go up from 12 to 8 or 9 for just 92 to guarantee Downs, Bain, etc., I'm happy to do that knowing I can probably recoup at least a 4th if not a 3rd by trying to move down from 20.

It's no guarantee but a shrewd front office could definitely pull it off with some advance planning.

Seems way better to get the front 7 guy early, the DB later.

But frankly I want an edge and an ILB.

I keep coming back to the way these guys think -- not what would we do -- and to me that is fill needs, which are ILB and probably front three with Osa gone. We know we have no ILBs, but we also have no depth at all in the front three. And I don't know if they consider the Chargers FA an everydown type player.

So for all we talk about best player, I won't be surprised if they target these positions in particular. I could see their thinking that we're fine at S and CB after free agency.

I don't think they'll force things. Think back to them needing a RB but didn't address it until late, with guys like Deuce Vaughn and Jaydon Blue. Or drafting Lamb for that matter.

I don't think they'll force it if they don't think the value is there. LB is a prime example of the value not being there assuming Styles goes early. Which is weird because it's a deep LB class but then RB was deep last year. We seem to be in a dead zone at least in the first round where it's either too high or too low for who we might want. I don't think we'll just take one.

Fortunately we have plenty of other needs.

But I think our mentality generally is way closer to BPA than most of us would guess.

Like they didn't force it with Bossman or Guyton? :unsure

And they didn't force RB because they thought they had it solved with Williams and Sanders (puke).

I want to believe, but I'm afraid Air Quotes believes he's always been doing it right, and he's not going to change now.

I agree, I think it is much closer to BPA with maybe a slight bump towards O-line. I think we took Booker last year because we loved Booker, not because we said, man we really need another first round guard.

We have taken DEs when it doesn't even look like a need (See Sam and Kneeland, even though it's still ended up a need because of the misses).

I'm not saying they don't consider need. But I think our teams evaluations maybe just lean towards certain positions. DE, Oline, TE.

I honestly don't think we will draft for need. We needed a WR last year. Didn't draft one and traded for Pickens. We needed a RB, a couple years ago and picked up Zeke right after the draft. I don't think Dallas is going to force LBer this year. I wouldn't be shocked if they ignored it until day three and then we get terrible draft grades for ignoring "need." But before the season we end up trading for someone.

So even better, I thought he just had Hood overrated at 13 with Styles down at 16. Dude has Terrel at 12. Which is even more insane to me. I listened to his whole list but this is what gives me hope. That some other dumbass NFL team has guys like Styles at 16. David Bailey at 8 (yep, that's where he has him). I mean if there is an NFL team that thinks like that, you have a shot at a team reaching for a guy. Pushing a legitimate defender down to you.

I watched that podcast an hour or so ago (didn't even realize it was the same one) and he was so proud of himself reading it.

Like more proud than Rory was after winning back-to-back Masters.
 
If the move is for Bailey or Styles, I am officially in support of 12 and 20 for 6 and 39. Maybe they add in a sweetener.
