2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

For the record, the reason I'm so bullish on possibly moving up a few spots from 12 is because we have 20 to recoup picks,

But isn't it very likely we'd have to give up 20 in order to move up?

One of the reasons I'm very hesitant to move up is because I think it's likely to wreck our ability to add picks by moving 20.

If we're trying to move up to 3 or 4, sure, although I wouldn't do that. Obviously you wouldn't have to give up 20 if you're looking at 8 or 9, and probably not even 6.

Yeah I think you're talking about moving up just a few picks to secure one of the top 6 defenders. Moving up to get the top one or two defender is a different story.

Yeah was listening on my drive to work and he has Styles like 16 but Hood as like 13. I get being different or unique but that guy is an idiot. Imagine he used to run a draft room. Welcome to why NFL teams make stupid picks.

I had to check to make sure I wasn't listening to something from 5 months ago. Nope it was from this morning.

Yeah I heard the same segment, can confirm.

And the part I bolded is exactly why I'm not moved by the argument that some team will take Faulk in the first.

Yep, some team could take Colton Fucking Hood in the top 15 of this draft because someone like Bryan Boaddous is running their draft. Every year you see a head scratching move. Sometimes even in the top 10. My fingers are crossed that we see some of that again this year.

It's just stunning to me that he has such a following. I guess being one of the first in the dfw media to really do it gave him a head start. But that doesn't mean he isn't a moron. And he's kind of an a-hole when he lets the mask down.

I kind of like him but I don't trust his evaluations.

Maybe 9, but I'd be surprised if that's all it took to get to 6.

6 is the highest we can probably get. And that's going to require probably 20 with the Browns kicking back a second. We have all talked about that swap. But anything less kicked back from the Browns would be an overpay. But it's also a weird move because you have to wonder why the Browns would do it. But maybe the Browns see pick 20 as a great spot to get a receiver they love but won't be able to get in the second round. Again, pick 20 has more value to a team probably wanting some offensive players. I don't think it has as much value to a team like Dallas who needs LBer, pass rusher and corner. Might be a great spot for safety though.

I'm confident that will happen. I think we could stand pat and get one of the players we really want at 12.

But I understand not wanting to take the risk of not moving up.

I'm not sure I want Thieneman Square at 12. I wouldn't throw a fit, but I guess I would rather try to trade down if he is defensive BPA there.

I'd be satisfied with him at 12, not thrilled, but it'd be fine assuming they can't move up or down and the top 6 are gone. I think I'd even take him over McCoy, although I'd still be a bit annoyed that they couldn't have figured out a way to make a deal one way or the other.

I won't believe it until they bring him in as a 30 though, if they bring him in next Sunday/Monday or something like they did with Booker then my antennae will be up.

He seems to fit everything Parker would love but it's weird he isn't on the visit list.

Yea that's the part I don't get, I think he's the closest thing to DeJean in this class and not just because he's white, but if they don't bring him in for a 30 I'm just going to assume they aren't overly interested.

The connection Jeremiah made was that Ansley coached with Oregon's DC last year (Lupoi) at Alabama 10 years ago. Kind of a flimsy connection but who knows.

He also insists that some teams have Thieneman over Downs, which isn't shocking since he might be better as a traditional cover-2 type deep safety.

Yeah and if you're a measurable guy Thieneman has better measurables. I like Downs more but I see this as a Downs on a tier, Thieneman on a tier, Mcneal-Warren on a tier and then after that the safeties kind of group together.

And there are exceptions. Like CJ Allen I could see them liking but going, no point in a visit. Bain, I think we brought in his car crash teammate for a 30 to find out about Bain as opposed to bringing Bain in himself. So I can connect dots that aren't direct 30 visits but a reason why they are still probably interested.

Thieneman I just don't see the dots. But could be that Cowboys will bring him in as a final 30 visit hoping no one notices.

I can't imagine Thieneman at 12 at all. No way. Did anyone have him even close to there before the combine?

I know he's athletic, and I admit he did look good doing the combine DB drills. But is he physical enough? That's my question.

And bigger picture, I don't like going Guard/Free Safety at 12 overall in back to back years.
