2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

I don't consider it a notable risk. It's more of just an unknown than what I'd consider a risk.

I actually have zero concern about his arm length causing his pass rush to struggle. I think his arms give him certain advantages. I think it gives him the ability to punch with more power and makes hand fighting better. Same reason why guys with short arms can bench press more. It's a leverage thing.

The only thing I slightly worry about with the short arms is at the finish point. I think wrapping a guy up is easier with longer arms. Batting a ball down is easier with longer arms. Knocking a ball lose by sticking an arm out is easier with longer arms. You think of a pass rusher who overshoots the QB but sticks his arm out and hits the ball while the QB is about to throw. Things that are easier with longer arms.

That's where I go ok, he probably won't be as good at those things compared to the same player with longer arms. But those seem to be minor when it comes to a guy who consistently beats the dude in front of him.

It's notable when there hasn't been a high level edge rusher with sub-31 arms in forever.

Arm length is a very important thing for OL and DL, not the most important thing obviously but there's a reason this is being bandied about and it's not just because it's a fun outlier of a stat.

There's a reason teams have thresholds for certain positions and that arm length is mentioned every year at key spots, primarily whether college OT's can stick at OT in the NFL or move inside.

It's a real consideration and in Bain's case it's a massive outlier, but there are other things you have to account for, and I'm not as concerned about it because he has very good size otherwise and has honed the other finer points of the game to compensate for the lack of length.

Hey he might turn out to be the one short-armed guy to get double digit sacks in 25 years. The one guy.

You willing to bet pick 12 on that?

If he gets to us, 11 GM’s would have said fuck no, well really 8 since the first 3 picks are fairly set.

Parsons has sub-32 arms and so did Melvin Ingram off the top of my head, along with a few others I'm sure.

Alright so there are a few :lol

He lacks the resume of elite LT types he’s consistently won reps against. Blake Miller, though he’s more of an NFL RT. Is it enough that you’d choose him at 12?

He might do better in a 3-4 where OT’s don’t as often immediately get hands on him, and he does play with a high motor and that energy is contagious for sure. He was more impactful and more of a leader at Miami than Mesidor. Things are different in the NFL though.

I agree about OL. But that's because your job as a blocker is to get your hands on the guy. The longer your arms are, the more likely you are to get them on the defender.

But as a defender it's not hard at all to get your hands on the guy trying to block you. So no, not nearly as important in my opinion. Again, it's why there is no statistical correlation between arm length and pass rush.

Aiden Hutchinson barely has 32 inch arms as well for yet another example FYI.

It's clearly important to NFL teams, there's a reason you never hear it thrown around for RB's, safeties or whatever, and it's because it's not especially important there.

Depending on the player it can be less of an issue, like with a guy like Hutchinson who has ideal size everywhere else, excellent hand use, etc., but that doesn't mean it's not important just because there are guys who have succeeded with less than ideal length. It's also somewhat scheme dependent because it shows up more in the run game where you need to stack OL and hold your ground, so the more the scheme calls for 2-gapping and stuff like that along the DL the more important it is.

And Bain is a historical outlier, there's no two ways around it and it's an important piece of the evaluation. I bet some teams won't even have him in the top 15, but for me I'm not hugely concerned given everything else he's shown.

I think that's the point though. It's one piece of a very complicated puzzle and it's stupid (really REALLY stupid) to take that 1 piece of the puzzle and just dismiss a guy based solely on that.

And just like that BFF status restored. I feel like such a whore.

I realize it's probably the only thing that gives us a chance to draft him at 12. But beyond that, it doesn't worry me. If the guy had 33 inch arms there is no shot he falls to 12. But scouts love their random measurables.

What are we talking about now? How great a pick Faulk would be at 12?

Yea that's my overarching point, it's important but can be mitigated with the right skill set, which I think Bain has.

I thought you wanted Olineman?
