2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

There’s no chance that any of those first round CBs are real difference makers: they are band aids at best. At least with Downs he could be a difference maker at safety.

Love could be an elite back.

This CB class is not elite at all. You’re hoping for Terence Newman with these guys.

Do you think Denzel Ward is a difference maker?

That's what I see in Delane.

He’s not that good

5 Pro Bowls is a coincidence? On a shitty team that doesn't get any publicity bump?

What type of CB exactly are you thinking is worth a 1st in the 12-15ish range?

And I would probably take Love over Delane, but to argue that he isn't worth the 12th pick is ridiculous.

No I meant Delane isn’t as good as Ward

Gotcha, maybe not, but running a sub-4.4 really sealed it for me given how clean he was on the field. You can never confidently say any prospect except for the absolutely elite ones will make 5 or so Pro Bowls, but I think there's definitely a decent chance he ends up somewhere close to Ward.

If we do take Love, we could look forward to the whining about how you shouldn’t take RB with a high first rounder for the next 6-8 years. Especially with how atrocious our defense was.

So we got that going for us, I guess.

If we were picking 6th, sure, but if he's available at 12 he'd almost certainly be the BPA and he'd also be a perfect pairing with Williams. You'd have a potentially even better version of Gibbs/Montgomery for the next 2-3 years.

I'm not even as high on him as the pundits, and if we were taking him over Styles or Downs at 6 I would get the bitching, but unless some crazy scenario plays out he'd be a no-brainer at 12.

I would take Love the RB before I take a CB for sure. And I like Javonte.
Well, in this case he would straight up be much more talented and highly rated than any CB in this draft, so there’s that.

Also, there is insane CB depth in this draft, certainly folks in the 2-4 rounds who’ll challenge our current starters immediately.

Dallas gets that warm, fuzzy feeling it seems from drafting OL, CBs, RB’s, and (less frequently now) DE’s/EDGEs— and both Love and Delane would scratch that itch.

If Love drops to 12, I hope to Hell they trade down with someone who sees him as an electric missing piece worth trading more draft capital for than they receive in return.

I was shaky on Downs before all the meniscus talk. Can we agree that if we do draft a player at 12 that he at least not have an outstanding injury concern?

I all but expect Downs to be there at 12 at this point

Sure but I haven't seen much about that beyond some generic speculation from not so reputable sources.

Yeah I just don't know if it's a legit concern or not.
Meniscus and ‘degenerative ACL’ discovered and flagged at the combine. Too many media outlets shared this.

Many execs though are not scared. The meniscus is minor, and other players flagged with similar ACL concerns have gone on to have fine careers.

We’ll learn more at OSU pro day today

I think you have a different interpretation about what was reported than I do. The report was according to one team from what I read. When one team claims to see something I kind of need to know what the other 31 team doctors saw to say if it's legit or not. Because supposedly there was not a consensus on that opinion by medical people.

But I sure as shit wouldn't want my team leaking that information. Not unless I wanted the guy to fall to my pick.

I think you are right, that folks are chalking up the "degenerative ACL" report to pre-draft BS and are not concerned at all regarding the more solidly reported meniscus issue

I mean this is one of those things that you just have to trust your own doctor on. We really have no idea as fans. And sometimes on draft day that's why a guy falls and everyone is wondering why the player is still available. Maybe that ends up being Downs. Maybe it's just a team picking at 13 hoping the guy falls to them.

"More likely to go 10-20 than top 10" says Jeremiah who is very connected.

I could easily see it, especially if someone like Bain or Styles is also available to Cincinnati at 10.

Honestly him not doing testing numbers works out in our favor. I don't think it will kill him but might be just enough to push him below guys that did test and prove themselves. I think the mental aspect of Downs, the leadership of Downs and those things are off the charts. I think we would have the leader of our defense for the next decade if we could get him.
