Gregory was a really good pass rusher. He won't be easy to replace but I think Sam Williams is going to be a good one. I think we will get way better early returns from him than we did Gregory. Just rare physical skills. He'll probably be able to give us about what we got out of Gregory last year by his 2nd or 3rd season.
Yea but he also maxed out at 6 sacks in a season, and I feel like Williams could do that as a rookie.Gregory was a really good pass rusher. No question about it. I always thought Gregory had double digit sack potential but injuries and suspensions just always seemed to interrupt him when he was getting there. I think Sam Williams also has double digit sack potential. As a rookie, it's easy. You rotate him with Dorance Armstrong. Let Armstrong do the heavy lifting and then use Williams as the explosive dude off the edge in passing situations.Yea but he also maxed out at 6 sacks in a season, and I feel like Williams could do that as a rookie.
Stats aren't everything but you can't ignore them either.
You have to delineate between base packages/run downs and nickel/dime packages. No question about it. I'm not entirely sure how Fowler really fits in anymore. I guess occasionally you move Lawrence inside but then you're probably adding Parson's to the pass rush. Fowler just buys you time incase Williams needs a little time to start the season.
Huh? His arms are the same length as Kayvon Thibodeaux...lacks the arm length
Folks win different ways. Williams isn’t going to be DeMarcus Ware with a million pass rush moves and insane bend. He’s going to do it with aggression, strength, motor, and the ability to come back off a blockHuh? His arms are the same length as Kayvon Thibodeaux...
I will say this, the one thing that Williams may lack is that bendy talent. He turns the corner because of just pure freakish speed and acceleration. But he doesn't exactly get low and dip the shoulder to turn the corner like you see with a David Ojabo for example. Or Gregory when he was here. But a lot of guys don't have that. Travon Walker the top pick in this draft has zero bend. Aidan Hutchinson doesn't either. Thibodeaux does but he also has never had a football season as productive as a pass rusher as Sam Williams just had.
Smith told the media this:I can't help but be excited about this kid and Tolbert. The Smith kid I have a bad feeling about, but these two make me forget about him.
Not gunna act like this doesn't help his cause with me.Smith told the media this:
You have to like the kid now.
Gregory was in and out of the lineup so much it stunted his development. So yeah, I could see Williams being able to equal or surpass Gregory's production by year 2 or 3.He'll probably be able to give us about what we got out of Gregory last year by his 2nd or 3rd season.
God damn ,he is fast for a big man.
This kid could be a beast... not only is he big and fast, but he's absolutely relentless.
