Except Wright, I still hate that pick. I think the scouts at least back the talent with Sam Williams. Hell most people acknowledge the guys talent. But the words sexual assault are enough to freak a person out even if it was dropped. Goes to show you how an allegation can ruin a persons life. Wright on the other hand was some off the wall guy Quinn fell in love with. Not sure anyone else agreed.
I don't have any idea what the fuck happened with Wright. It was all on traits. At least Williams has productivity and you can see it.

Got a few reps from Williams at the Senior Bowl here. He kills Kinnard in one and Max Mitchell in another, Mitchell gets him on a 2nd rep.

There's at least 1 or 2 of Ridgeway in there also looking pretty good with a bull rush.

I'm writing him off. If your first order of business after being over-drafted by a round because of sexual assault allegations is to make a big deal about changing your first name, and your second order of business is to change it back?

You go in the moron bin until proven otherwise.

Dan Quinn Gets His Wish In Coaching Sam Williams
May 13, 2022 at 03:00 PM

Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer / Senior Manager, Digital Media

FRISCO, Texas – Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has been on the same football field with Sam Williams now twice in his life.

But it was because of the feeling Quinn had after the first time, is probably one of the main reasons there was even a second time.

The second occurred Friday during the Cowboys rookie minicamp at The Star.

Williams, the Cowboys' second-round draft pick, was among over 30 rookies on the field for the first time together.

Maybe he blended in a little more this time around, but Quinn recalled the first time he got the chance to evaluate Williams in person as the Cowboys sent some coaches to Ole Miss for a pre-draft workout.

"Leaving the field that day, I remember telling Mike (McCarthy), 'Man I'd really like to coach that guy.' So that's a good feeling to have."
And it might be a great feeling, especially considering the Cowboys actually drafted Williams with the 56th overall pick.

Quinn said he remembers what stood out right away in his visit with Williams on the field.

"Just his initial quickness. Sometimes as a pass rusher, beating someone to the punch is more than half the job," Quinn said. "If you have the quickness to get on somebody, both mentally and physically, (it puts) pressure on someone."

And for Williams, pressure might be a key word for him, in more ways than one. Not only will his job be to create pressure off the edge, but like with all draft picks, there will be the proverbial pressure that comes with the high-profile of playing with the Cowboys.

But if Williams is actually feeling that kind of pressure, he didn't show too often Friday, either before, during or after his first practice.

Williams' ear-to-ear smile rarely left his face.

"Today, I had a lot of fun today," Williams said of his first practice. "Coaches were pumping us up, but teaching us at the same time. You can't ask for anything better than that."

Williams said he remembers visiting with the Cowboys during his Top 30 visit in April and wishing it would last longer.

"When I came here, I told them I wanted to miss my flight on purpose so I wouldn't have to leave," Williams said, suggesting that Dan Quinn was the main reason he felt so comfortable. "It's just a connection that I can't explain. With DQ and the other guys, it's just different."

Dan Quinn met Sam Williams and knew right away he wanted to coach him.

Sam Williams visited the Cowboys a month later and didn't want to leave.

Now, they both get their wish as Quinn gets to coach up Williams as much as he wants and Williams never has to leave.

Sometimes, things are just meant to be.

But now, Quinn said he's hoping the relationship he's developed with Williams goes to the next level.

"It was there, going to Ole Miss, (then) he came here, then we started on calls," Quinn said of the history of his connection to Williams. "Like most things, relationships take time. But the longer it goes, hopefully the stronger it gets."

Role Call: How Sam Williams Can Be Impactful

Role-Call--How-Sam-Williams-Can-Be-Impactful-hero

(Editor's Note: With the offseason program in the rearview mirror, it's time to look ahead. As part of the preparation for training camp, this series will introduce 25 key players who are new to the Cowboys' roster, rookies and veterans alike. We'll continue with rookie defensive end Sam Williams.)
How He Got Here: It's rare that a player not projected in the first round is linked to an NFL team before the draft. But for some reason, Williams was on the Cowboys' radar for a while. Whether it was his Top 30 visit in the spring, his workout out at Ole Miss that included coaches Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn, or maybe his first introduction to Jerry Jones at an awards banquet, but it was clear there was mutual interest between the Cowboys and Williams. And sure enough, in the second round of the draft, the Cowboys drafted the Ole Miss pass rusher, who had 11 sacks last season for the Rebels. There are some off-the-field concerns, which might have kept other teams away but the Cowboys are confident in their homework of Williams that is ready for the next level and could possibly be the next great defensive player on this squad.
What's Next: The Cowboys have confidence in Dan Quinn to put these pieces in the right place. He did it well last year, especially with Micah Parsons playing all over the field. Now, Williams isn't ready to be compared to Parsons, but there's a chance that he could line up in multiple positions. Williams rushed off the edge quite a bit in college, but he's got the size and speed to play outside linebacker in a 4-3 scheme. He even had some rush attempts in the middle of the line, something we saw a lot from Parsons last year. Now, the transition to the NFL game is going to take some time for Williams, but if the Cowboys can find some roles for him early, he might be a player that contributes sooner than later.
Bet You Didn't Know: The 2016 football season – the same year Dak and Zeke were drafted by the Cowboys – was the first year Williams actually played any organized football. As a senior in Montgomery, Ala., Williams went out for the football team on defense. Although he was a "no-star" recruit, Williams made enough plays to garner some attention at the JUCO level, before eventually transferring to Ole Miss.
Quotable: ""This kid had one of the most productive seasons of anybody in the country. Really unique skills and you can see the size-speed ratio is off the charts. Hardly anybody ever that size ran at that time (4.47). I think, put in the right program, he'll so special things." – Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin on the Rich Eisen Show.

What is absolutely hilarious is just how much this guy physically resembles Micah Parsons, from pass rushing style to his very face. :lol
