We'll see what he runs, I'm expecting the 4.4's/low 4.5's, and if Zimmer could turn Barr into more or less an off-ball LB after being a full-time DE in college I'm sure he could do it with Walker.

Only another 3-4 weeks until we know who our 2025 DC is.
Yeah and I'm really just going off the eye test on this. If he runs a 4.4 or 4.5 that is great. But I've seen QBs run away from him that are white. So I won't buy it as on the field speed. Some guys are great at running in a straight line in shorts. But thats not always the case when they have to change directions.

With that being said I think he has straight line explosiveness. He has that quick first step to get on top of the OT quickly. If I'm judging him as a DE I love his power, his quick first step, his explosiveness and ability to change speed to power.

If I judge him as a LBer he looks like a thumper who lacks sideline to sideline speed. And if he takes a wrong step he lacks the speed and change of direction ability to make up for it. He is a liability in man coverage and can probably be so/so in zone coverage. Sort of the old school middle LBer types of 30 years ago who are a dead breed now.

If you watch the Vikings/Lions game on SNF keep an eye on how they use Andrew Van Ginkel, that's what I'm imagining for Walker in a certain scheme, it's not a pure off ball LB role.

No and I get it. I honestly think if the guy played exactly how he plays right now but weighed 260 pounds he would be viewed as Brandon Graham at DE. More than his forty time, I think his weight is what will interest me more. If he cuts weight to try to run faster I might be out on the guy entirely. If he comes in at 250-255 pounds, I might be all in on the guy as a DE.

I get the hybrid type roles. And that's what we were supposed to be doing with Parsons too. Ultimately this is how I look at it. As a pure LBer, I think I'd view the guy as a fourth/fifth round pick. As a DE/3-4 OLBer/pass rusher, I'd view him as a top 10 pick.

He wouldn't be a pure LB in the scenario I'm describing, maybe only around 30-40% of the time, although Van Ginkel is really kind of the prototype that I'm imagining for his role, but it takes a creative DC to carve that out. I think Barr's role was similar in Minnesota and could work under Zimmer, but we'll see.

And maybe it's just semantics. I want the guy rushing the passer. What "position" we call him I guess doesn't really matter. It's funny but it's the guys power that really impresses me.

I think if you take him it's because of his pass-rush ability first and foremost.

What I'm describing is how to mitigate the wear and tear on his body in different schemes to keep him fresh in clear pass-rushing situations without asking him to go 1-on-1 against OT's all season on 2nd and 5.

Too much Jalen Walker talk here. Yuck. I would rather take Banks.

I wouldn't. I think Banks is a RG not a LT here. I won't complain because I think Banks, Smith and Beebe could be pretty cool. But we need play makers. I don't want to rely on the Tolberts of the world to move our offense.

No and I get it. I've gone back and forth on the guy. Like I've said, if he was bigger it would be a no brainer to me. But at 245 pounds it's hard to justify a top 12-13 pick. 245 pounds screams LBer but I see a DE. I honestly think I'll hold judgment until I see his actual weight. Like I've said, he doesn't play like a 245 pound guy. I've seen him straight up bully dudes 80 pounds more than that. But I've also seen him be outrun in pursuit and struggle to change directions. So I don't see a guy that I want as a LBer.

If that's our first three rounds? Yikes.

Love Skattebo, but that's about 2-3 rounds too early. Don't want Warren in the first either. Ok with Walker.

Georgia's defense kind of gave Banks the business in that first matchup this year, so between the two I'm going Walker.

If OL was a clear BPA situation that's one thing, but given how much young depth we've developed on the OL I just don't see it in the first this year.

We have developed guards.

Jury is still out on Guyton and Im not ready to say that just more experience will fix his problems. Maybe it will or maybe he will keep having mysterious issues and penalty issues.

I think it will get fixed. He looks like a raw rookie. I think the frustrations with him have more to do with letting minor injuries get to him. Give him a full offseason and I think he will be good next year.
