Yeah and I'm really just going off the eye test on this. If he runs a 4.4 or 4.5 that is great. But I've seen QBs run away from him that are white. So I won't buy it as on the field speed. Some guys are great at running in a straight line in shorts. But thats not always the case when they have to change directions. We'll see what he runs, I'm expecting the 4.4's/low 4.5's, and if Zimmer could turn Barr into more or less an off-ball LB after being a full-time DE in college I'm sure he could do it with Walker.
Only another 3-4 weeks until we know who our 2025 DC is.
With that being said I think he has straight line explosiveness. He has that quick first step to get on top of the OT quickly. If I'm judging him as a DE I love his power, his quick first step, his explosiveness and ability to change speed to power.
If I judge him as a LBer he looks like a thumper who lacks sideline to sideline speed. And if he takes a wrong step he lacks the speed and change of direction ability to make up for it. He is a liability in man coverage and can probably be so/so in zone coverage. Sort of the old school middle LBer types of 30 years ago who are a dead breed now.
