I honestly wouldn't be upset if Martin just calls it for the season. His career is all done and getting Bass playing time can only be a good thing.
That was spoken like a man that never wrote Martin a check.I honestly wouldn't be upset if Martin just calls it for the season. His career is all done and getting Bass playing time can only be a good thing.
Yea I don't really care what Martin decides to do, I'd be fine bringing him back on like a 1 year/$4M deal to see if he can physically bounce back, but I'm also fine with him calling it quits and tentatively rolling with Bass at RG.I honestly wouldn't be upset if Martin just calls it for the season. 4 mil? That's our entire free agency budget. We need to sign 6 guys for that.Yea I don't really care what Martin decides to do, I'd be fine bringing him back on like a 1 year/$4M deal to see if he can physically bounce back, but I'm also fine with him calling it quits and tentatively rolling with Bass at RG.
If Tyron doesn't retire how about cutting Steele because he's a joke, starting some combination of Tyler Smith, Guyton and Richards at LT/LG/RT, and bringing Tyron back on a cheap 1 year deal as a swing tackle?
Replenish the depth we lose with Steele for 1/5th the price.
I think if we cut him outright we'd save a little under 5 million next year, if we spread it with a June 1 cut it'd probably save us around 8-9 million.By the way I'm all for replacing Steele but I'm not sure that we can cut him next year without losing cap dollars. We may have to wait until 2026. Admittedly I'm not positive of that and designating him June 1 might help.
That's the way I read it too. Plus it saves you money in future years. Everyone is worried about the cap hit in one year but your saving that base salary of like 13 mil as well (and the higher base salaries in future years).I think if we cut him outright we'd save a little under 5 million next year, if we spread it with a June 1 cut it'd probably save us around 8-9 million.

So what you don't create in cap room in 2025, you create way more cap room in 2026 and beyond when guys like Lamb and Parsons are eating up more cap.
No question about it. I think he has consistently been the worst Olineman this year. The path is clear then. We're retarded if we don't cut him.
There is no super QB at the top or no can't miss generational defensive lineman to make losing worth it. All this "Waaaah, we're fucking up our draft pick" is fucking retarded loser talk. People here talk all the time about changing the culture. Losing breeds losing. I'd prefer to win a few games that nobody expected us to, and maybe build off of that. Put some stuff on tape that the next coaching staff can use.We don't have the tools on offense to make a real run, but as much as I don't want us to fuck up or draft position, I think these guys have at least 2 more wins in them.
To my surprise, not only have they not quit, but they actually seemed to genuinely believe they can make a run.
Honestly, I can't be mad at them for it. Isn't that the type of fight you want to see in your players? And I'm impressed again by McCarthy that he's managed to keep these guys dialed in.
It's going to be very interesting to see how things unfold a month from now.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "run" dream ends vs Cincy and we lose out, but if we somehow play a really good game like vs. Washington and beat them... things could be kind of interesting? We don't have the tools on offense to make a real run, but as much as I don't want us to fuck up or draft position, I think these guys have at least 2 more wins in them.

Even if we lose next week we'll probably be at Carolina and then maybe even Tampa or Washington at home.Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "run" dream ends vs Cincy and we lose out, but if we somehow play a really good game like vs. Washington and beat them... things could be kind of interesting?
Plus the more we lose, the closer the Mingo pick gets to being a 3rd.There is no super QB at the top or no can't miss generational defensive lineman to make losing worth it.
