Upon some research, the playoffs OT 1st/2nd quarter thing didn't change. End of 1st OT period has always been handled as a flip side of field, keep holdover timeouts for a new OT period.

Only change is the scoring situations that decides the victor.

2003 Rams/Panthers double OT
2012 Ravens/Broncos double OT

And yet Mahomes scored 3 first half points. If it wasn't for his defense he isn't even in that game. Hell he loses if his special teams don't block an extra point.

One player makes a difference absolutely. But let's not pretend that Mahomes was out there doing it by himself. His defense was bailing him out. Mahomes throws an INT setting the 49ers up with field position that should be easy points. The 49ers gained -1 yards and had to punt.

3 of the first 4 possessions by the Chiefs were 3 and out. The exception was one big play and a fumble. He wasn't even moving the ball. But his defense kept him in the game. Complimentary football at its finest.
But we aren’t talking about one person doing it a by himself. At least that’s not what I am saying. I’m saying one person can make a difference in the outcome at times when they take it upon themselves to take over instead of letting circumstances dictate how they perform.

49ers won the coin toss and elected to receive it. I didn't see how game went into OT, but that's a mistake, right?

First possession cannot win; Second possession can.

The coin toss loser has the advantage to go for win if 49ers kick FG or don't score.

If it was 4th and goal from within the 5 yard line, maybe even 8 yard line, I'm confident Andy Reid is going for the win. No way is he kicking ball back to 49ers for a second possession with FG to win.
If you score 3, you are giving Patrick Mahomes an extra down to tie or win. Going first blows with these new rules

Let's not pretend that one year wasn't the most dominant defense of all time. He also left after that.
Every defense has its weaknesses, and for that great Bears team it was their secondary.

They played teams that kept three WRs in the game and never adjusted out of it. It was a shock to many people and they didn’t know how to react in a week of prep. I remember the Cowboys trying to have little Mike Renfro help block vs the 46 front.

Joes Gibbs adjusted, max protected, and heaved the ball over their heads handing them back-to-back playoff losses in 86 and 87. I remember rooting so bad for the Bears to humiliate them, but those assholes not only had their number they exposed them. Parcells’s run-first style got his ass-raped by the Bears every time they played, so you had to have a balanced attack or you couldn’t get past their front, but once you blocked it, their corners couldn’t lock anyone down.

Bears had a great front seven and a gimmick attack. Proof that it was a gimmick is no one does that shit anymore. It was too easy to beat once people figured it out.

I’d say the 86 Giants were the better defense in that era. Not as dominant a DL, but still very good, equally dynamic LB’s (and even more when one was freaking LT) and then a solid strong secondary led by Collins and Kinard.

I’d also rate the 1991 Eagles defense better. Their weakest level was their LB’s, which still had a pro bowl caliber guy in Joyner.

That 2000 Ravens team was plain sick. Fewest points allowed, fewest rushing yards allowed, ever. Dominant DL, punishing, fast, LBs, and a fricking insane secondary with two blue chip CB’s and Rod Woodson at safety.

Buddy Ryan was gone at that point.

I mean, no. Just no.

That was a defense built by buddy Ryan, coached by the other candidate I mentioned, Bud Carson.

Also, no.

Romo was terrible last night. Like he hadn't prepared and this was a mid-season Colts - Jags game. Plus he seemed nervous even though this wasn't his first SB.

I like Romo as an announcer, but that was borderline embarrassing.
So you’re saying , yet again , a Cowboys QB didn’t show up for a big game ? :tippytoe:tippytoe

Inactive for something stupid, whatever it was.

He’ll get a ring, but to make a point, it should be missing one diamond.
They should drop the ring box when they go to hand it to him.

Wish we had some of that DL talent when push comes to shove (literally). High motor players performing well as a unit

The Chiefs DL acted like grown men versus the 49ers OL.

Except Reid hand waved it off after the game.

At first I was like, "freaking Mormons", but the more I think about it I'm actually glad that Reid isn't acting like a victim.

Kelce is still a dickhead though.

Publicly, doesn't he almost have to play it off as not that big of a deal? He couldn't be honest and say, "This douchebag was pulling his bullshit again right in the middle of the SB." Would've just created more problems for him. No way he was cool with it, IMO.

Kittle, Deebo and Aiyuk combined for 8 receptions for 86 yards

Deebo 3 rushes for 8 yards

Props, KC Defense

That's amazing.
