Were we really going to take Kincaid? Sick of reading "the Bills jumped ahead of the Cowboys and stole Kincaid". I'm not buying it. As you know originally from near Buffalo and I can't stand the Bills or their fans.
No, doesn't sound like it at all. The Cowboys were looking at big men. My guess is it was Mazi or some other lineman (offense or defense). And on top of that I think they legit like LaPorta more than Kincaid. Agree with that or not, I don't think the TE rankings are as clear as people think on every teams board. Meaning it's not all Mayer and Kincaid.

Stephen: We had 2-3 guys rated the same and had a discussion. Mainly between big men, but Mazi brings a run-stopping element that we dont have aside from Hankins. This makes us a better defense at the end.

McCarthy: When you go through post-season evaluation, we wanted to focus on run stopping. We loved Mazi on the 30-person visit. Our defensive strength is taking the ball away and pass rush, but we want to improve early defensive downs

Jerruh: That's the correct philosophical thing about our defense. Mazi having that much strenght, that much base, that much disruption from that standpoint vs number of sacks he gets...you wouldn't have seen that from us 10 years ago. This is something in the making from us for several years. Because of structure of our defense and Mike's philosphy about compelmentary football, this pick and this style player...I'm simply comparing it to 10 years ago from us
It's amazing what a sane HC can do, as opposed to some fucking toadie like Garrett who spent all his time daydreaming about TE's and how to recreate the 1993 Cowboys.

And how about a head coach who can get excited about a defensive player for his defensive coordinator. McCarthy might be an offensive coach but he takes the role of head coach correctly. He isn't just in charge of the offense.

Yea, that's the difference in having a diverse perspective and having seen what it takes to win in different environments, as opposed to Garrett who was faking it until he made it and focused on tricking everyone into keeping him around despite being a horrendous coach.

Replay of War Room making the Mazi Smith decision

3:14:00
Just watched and wow, they all hated the pick (except the upper left guy). Unbelievable.

And that Danny Phantom guy seems like a complete dickhead.

Watch for the War Room replay and not much else. At 3:50:00, the three all would've preferred Dalton Kincaid.

Man an OL and RB the next two picks and I don’t care what happens the rest of the way. Other than a QB.

I’m so glad they announced this to everyone while he’s still available
Yeah I mean our love for LaPorta started coming out before the draft even started. I will also say I don't think we had a first round grade on any TEs. Jerry can't help himself but it sounds like Mazi was 13 or 14 on our board and we only had like 11 first round grades. Sort of backs up the idea we thought this was a bad first round draft.

If it's true that ultimately games are won and lost in the pits, then last year's #1 pick and this year's show a commitment on someone's part to that philosophy. Don't know who gets the credit for that. It's a departure from the way things used to be.

I think it was mostly MM but I will give a smidge of props to Stephen for allowing the philosophy to change.
