Stephen: We had 2-3 guys rated the same and had a discussion. Mainly between big men, but Mazi brings a run-stopping element that we dont have aside from Hankins. This makes us a better defense at the end.
McCarthy: When you go through post-season evaluation, we wanted to focus on run stopping. We loved Mazi on the 30-person visit. Our defensive strength is taking the ball away and pass rush, but we want to improve early defensive downs

Mazi having that much strenght, that much base, that much disruption from that standpoint vs number of sacks he gets...you wouldn't have seen that from us 10 years ago. Jerruh: we had to turn down right before we picked after having our discussions about the player. You notice we took all the time. For the full time we were talking, there was a trade we could've taken. A couple rebuttals to those. We had trades in the works
