The Elon Musk Thread…

Gork is pretty funny. I didn't know about it until today. Or I memory-holed it.

That woman's voice makes me want to hurt something.

I heard him say this on Joe Rogan's show one day. I'm not sure how this would work and not devolve into socialism. Maybe I'm too dumb to understand it, but I can't see the difference in this and what we are seeing in countries that have tried socialism in the past. If someone can explain the difference, please do.

You aren't wrong. I couldn't believe he said this either.

I also don't see how he doesn't see how inflationary this would be. Money in the end is supposed to have value because it represents something, well, of value, whether that be a good you owned and sold or a service you provided. If you give it away to people for doing nothing, it has to lose value.

I thought maybe I was missing something. But, this can't be the solution to AI taking jobs. It just can't. I'm not sure what the answer is, but that ain't it.

Here’s the thing. If you imagine a world where energy is free because it’s generated endlessly via fusion or solar or whatever, and then robot labor uses the free energy to grow crops endlessly, build houses for everyone, robot taxis drive everyone around, etc etc… everyone has their needs met basically for free.

I’m as capitalist as they come but this is a future we have to envision and come to terms with. When everything is free, I don’t care if the government gives it out.

Everything is eventually gonna be produced at such high quantities, so cheaply, it will be essentially free.

Money is only a representation of your labor at the end of the day. If you don’t have to work because a robot slave powers itself, repairs itself, grows all your food, builds all you shelter, can come up with entertainment for you, etc, the only thing you ever need to acquire in your life is said robot. You never have to work again.

Humanity will have to find meaning in their lives from something other than labor.

Can we hunt down all the stupid ass people like it's The Hunger Games?

Having an excess of leisure time could lead to several outcomes, positive and negative. People may get bored easily, or depressed. Or they may have extra time to invent new shit. Hopefully, it will inspire more people to invest in their families. That would cure a bunch of society's ills, imo.

Under Smitty's scenario, why do the robots keep us around? All we do is consume resources and contribute nothing, while they do all the work. Wouldn't take long for them to resent that.

I don't think this actually happens during any of our lifetime.
It's going to happen faster than you probably think. I would say within 10 years we will be close to it being the exception to have a job rather than the rule.
