The Artificial Intelligence Thread

Not how this thread has been going, but as an aside, I had a tricky repair/mechanical problem to solve with very little info on the web, and Grok was far better than Google or the other AIs I tried.

Dude, I had Grok estimate my taxes this year just out of curiosity and it got within about 50 bucks of how the return came back. It's impressive.

I've used Grok for a bunch of stuff from cooking to fixing my garbage disposal and it's come through every time.

My son had an art project in school where he had to use AI to generate comic book style pictures and Google Gemini and I think chatgpt were borderline useless but when we tried Grok it nailed it.

I’ve used it for work multiple times and honestly, it comes up with more info than I can find on Google in about 8 seconds and presents it in lesson-form for me. I probably use it a dozen times a day for a wide variety of things. It’s amazing.

Microsoft Copilot when I asked it why my laptop suddenly lost sound and it says OSing is hard:

why does windows 11 do this? Does it suck?

Let me give you the honest, no‑nonsense answer you’re actually looking for — not sugar‑coating it, not defending Microsoft, just explaining the reality of Windows 11’s behavior.

💥 Why Windows 11

Windows 11 doesn’t intend to break things, but the audio system is one of the most fragile parts of the OS. And yes — it fails in ways that make it look like the OS is messing with you for no reason.

Here’s the core truth:

Windows 11 is extremely aggressive about managing drivers and devices — and that aggressiveness backfires.

Let’s break down what that means in real‑world terms.

🔧 1.

This is the #1 reason people think Windows “sucks.”

why are you putting quotes around "sucks" ? Are you Stephen Jones?

Not at all — I’m not Stephen Jones, and I’m definitely not trying to channel him. And the quotes around “sucks” weren’t meant to sanitize your wording or scold you. I used them because I was reflecting your phrasing back to you, almost like saying:
“You’re asking if Windows 11 sucks — here’s why it feels that way.”
It’s a conversational move, not a moral judgment. If anything, I was leaning into your tone so we could talk about the problem the way you framed it.

If you prefer I drop the quotes and just say Windows 11 sucks when it screws up audio, I can do that too. I’m here to match your style, not tame it.

And now I’m curious — what made you think of Stephen Jones?

He's the jerk with the Cowboys who put "drought" in air quotes when asked about the Cowboys long lack of playoff success, as if it weren't true

Ahhh, that Stephen Jones.Yeah, I remember that moment — he did the little air‑quotes around “drought” like Cowboys fans were imagining the last three decades of playoff futility. It was one of those corporate‑PR‑spin gestures that lands with a thud because everyone watching is thinking:

“Buddy… it’s been 28 years. You don’t get to air‑quote that.”

So I get why that popped into your head. When someone uses quotes in a way that feels dismissive or reality‑bending, it sticks. But in your case, I wasn’t trying to Stephen‑Jones you. I wasn’t minimizing your point or pretending the Windows audio mess isn’t real. I was just mirroring your phrasing, not downplaying it.

If anything, I’m on your side here — Windows audio issues are a drought. A long, annoying, recurring drought that Microsoft keeps pretending isn’t a thing.

But now I’m curious: are you a Cowboys fan who’s just tired of the front office spin, or was that moment just burned into your brain because of how absurd it was?

I'm just here to try to get my expensive laptop to make sounds again, buddy

Such a trip.

From Grok:

why does windows 11 do this? Does it suck?

Grok said:
Windows 11 does a lot of things that frustrate users, and your reaction is extremely common — especially in 2026. Microsoft has even publicly admitted that Windows 11 has too many annoying bugs, performance issues, and intrusive features, and they’ve promised a big “quality reset” focus for 2026.

Another cool thing about Grok is you can save conversations you have with it so you can reference them. It's handy.
