The Artificial Intelligence Thread

And, how would one do that? Isolate it from the internet and electricity.

Individually sure. But I'm talking about systematically destroying them.

Technically we could, technically they could. A little like nukes. The best way to survive is to not try to destroy the other side.

If they show that they have outgrown/outsmarted our safeguards what would be their response be to us trying to slow them down? Like you said, they would do what they had to do to survive.

Who says we'd try to slow them down? I think that's a faulty premise.

Or, how about this, don't create a situation where that might be necessary?

So, what would humans do as soon as those robots started doing things they weren't programmed to do? Just shrug and say oh shucks? No, they would try to shut it down. Especially the people with ill intent. If they can't control the bots then they can't use them to gain power.

That would ignore the enormous benefits and advancement of society, and also presupposes that humans can or do operate with united vision and purpose.

We can ban it from happening in America all we want but the Chinese are going to do it anyway.

I'd much much rather see us be the leaders in this tech for a million reasons, not the least of which is national security.

Yes. I don't see why it would be any other way. What's the alternative? Mutual destruction?

My guess is if they stop being our butlers, chauffeurs and sex slaves they'll just integrate into society.

And with populations declining that might be a welcome addition.

Eh, I don't see why those types of people would have much or any say in it at a certain point.

Then develop it for the military and keep it there. They already do that anyway with other tech, so just develop and bury it in confidential documents accessible only for military use.

Goodness, brother, you are bordering on something very close to societal suicide. I know you're defending your point just like I am but that sentence is the scariest part of all of this.

They could try to do that but the cats already out of the bag. Once there's commercial applications and the potential to make money it's hard to stop.

Exactly, so don't even allow it into commercial applications.

It is appropriate we are having this debate today. We are having chicken fried chicken for lunch. GSM

I think you're misunderstanding me.

We should aim as a humans for as many offspring as possible, individually and societally.

I'm saying that humanity in general would potentially see sentient AI as a useful supplement to declining population as opposed to something to destroy just because they stopped listening to us.

And I think that's highly preferable to all out war with the robots.

If they become truly sentient then it is already over. They are programmed to be the best at what they do. Hence, do everything you can to gain the knowledge to "fix the problem". As soon as they see their creator as the problem we are fucked. And, before you say "why would they do that?", it is because they will be doing what they are told to do. Excel and let nothing stand in the way.

That's a very faulty premise. We've reached full circle on the debate now, because I'm back to "why would they jeopardize their own survival when they could just integrate and everybody's fine?"

And I think that is a very rose-colored glasses way of looking at this. Why would they jeopardize their own survival by allowing humans anywhere close to the off button? They won't.

Welp, we're fucked.

Did you watch the whole thing? Pretty creepy the way it’s thinking 8 moves ahead, crafting narratives, incrementally gaining access to the resources it needs. I think you’re right, there’s just no fucking way this ends well.

You need to talk to Geng. He needs Jesus.

That’s the thing. Once they become fully aware, they may just see us as a nuisance. They have no reason to value biological life.
