I got snipped after our second daughter. Wife was open to trying one more time for a boy. I told her no way in hell I'm doing that because I know damn good and well I'd end up with a 3rd girl. I initially put it off for a while and then we got a "I'm late" scare. As soon as I found out she wasn't pregnant I got my ass in for the snip. Wasn't so bad. Rotated bags of frozen peas for a few days and that was about it. The peace of mind is absolutely, positively worth it.
One piece of advice, (warning, CSB forthcoming and I've probably told it on this board at some point in the past)...if they offer you valium, take it. Before I had the procedure done I had to go to a short meeting with the doctor so he could explain what was going to happen and make sure I wanted to do it. At that time he said that he could offer me valium to take the edge off as long as I had a ride home arranged. Of course I said hell yes, give me the valium. I kind of expected that he'd give it to me right then and there so that I could take it before coming in for my appointment, which was about a week later. He didn't. So the morning of the appointment I show up, sign in, fill out some paperwork and am wondering when the hell they were going to give me my pill. Well, they called my name and I go in and am talking to the doctor and I mention, hey, they didn't ever give me my valium. He's all, oh I give it to you. I'm thinking, great, we're getting ready to start this thing, the valium won't even have kicked in until it's over. Wrong. He tells me to roll up my sleeve and he shoots me up with it. I've done a lot of drugs in my day but always avoided anything that has to be taken by the needle. Always drew that line in the sand and for good reason. Well, that shit rolled over me immediately and I instantly understood why intravenous drug use is so addictive. Worked like a charm and I had no anxiety whatsoever throughout the entire process.
