Spring League Thread...

There will probably never be a successful alternative to the NFL. I understand they're going to try to make V.2 less of a circus but it's just going to be like a minor league for the NFL, sort of like NFL Europe.

I think the only attempt that came close to being successful was the USFL. They produced a lot of future NFL players and it was pretty popular for awhile. I used to watch the Generals and Stars a lot in NJ back in those days.

It could be done. But it's not going to happen over night and you can't try to go head to head with the NFL. You find space where the NFL isn't and grow there. America loves football and they have room in their hearts for football during the other 8 months of the year. So go there and grow before you take the NFL on. But don't try to change the game drastically or you'll end up like the Arena League.

I think they need to stay with the merica, southern hospitality thing instead of the sideshow angle. They could slowly build a brand that way, IMO.

criminals I can understand, but why did he think fans didn't want to see cheerleaders?

The only angle I can see is he might be thinking even the cheerleaders might not go along with the "family friendly" model.

retarded. lots of decent families let their daughters participate in cheerleading. no one's saying they have to dress like strippers.

Oh, I'm not saying I agree with it. Just trying to understand what he might be thinking.

My god. Talcum X is the worst.

Yep. And, half the time, he makes himself look like an idiot. I'm not sure how in the world he has so many followers.

If it’s done right, it could be viable l, IMO.

I’m sure there are fans like myself that are tired of watching this watered down bullshit.

Bring back my Memphis Maniax!

Try White, conservative, elderly, and patriotic.

I'm not even sure you have to be conservative. Even white male liberals seem to hate themselves for being born white and male. White privilege or something like that.

I'd be all for a league with NFL type rules that eliminates the constant officiating controlling the outcome of games. Eventually they would be able to snag guy who would rather be stars in their league than to be backups in the NFL. And the more popular the league becomes the more they will be able to compete with the NFL for bigger name players.

But I think they are going the wrong direction trying to avoid anybody with an arrest record. If anything they need to cut out all the bullshit suspensions and let the law handle that side of things. Just get the most talented players that you can. Better to have the names playing for you than to have squeeky clean records.

Last time, their tag line was "Don't worry, we'll teach them how to cheer" and featured cheerleaders who looked like they were out of a porno.

If they would allow players to go pro after one year in college and are able to pay anywhere near to what the NFL does that would be a start to getting young talent. Do away with the gimmicky crap, make it like the NFL but change the issues that plague the NFL. They are still going to have to protect the players.

Its got to be done right, IMO. Already talking about not having a halftime and shit like that, no cheerleaders....WTF. Just play the fucking game. The game is essentially the same for Jr high football up to the pros. Follow the same basic outline, and fans will watch. There are enough decent players cut every season from NFL rosters who can make it competitive.

It’s clear he believes the NFL is more vulnerable than at any time in recent history and is pouncing on what he perceives to be two major things people are fed up with.

And umm, there is a problem with this?
