Translation: The U.S. National Anthem here in Seattle has been a true movie scene. Spectacular. Watch it all the way to the end. Brutal. More than 65,000 people, absolute full house. The United States showing that it's a soccer-loving country too. Fabulous.

Even with all our flaws this is still the greatest country to ever grace this planet. :towel

And with a game to spare, probably the first time ever, or in about 100 years.
I'm almost positive I read that it's the first time the USA has won twice in a row in the group round since 1930. I'm almost positive I saw that but haven't seen it anywhere else, so I'm starting to doubt myself.

how long has it been since the USA soccer team won back to back games in the world cup group round?

About 96 years (until June 19, 2026).

The USMNT won back-to-back group-stage matches for the first time since the inaugural 1930 World Cup. In 1930, they beat Belgium and Paraguay 3-0 each in the group stage (advancing to the semifinals).

Maybe they just got out wrong. Happens in football games all the time... Sometimes the background crowd noise seems too loud, sometimes not enough.

Shit like this gives me chills. I don't know if I'm just starved for unity in this country or what, but I love seeing videos like this.

During the Anthem part? Or just in general?
Just in general.

Lumen Field is well known for its crowd noise so when the team from the host country has big moments I was expecting the broadcasters to be drowned out. But it felt like Fox suppressed the crowd audio for most of the game.

I assume it was a network decision and not just my TV because during the Finals the crowd noise from Knicks fans was very palpable.

What do you mean starved for unity?

The nation was just recently unified against Sorsby and Texas Tech.

I think you're right because after the game at the live studio broadcast you could tell the crowd was very loud and the broadcasters even said they'd never forget how great the fans were.
