Prospects Dallas Has Shown Interest In - 2026

He's also a potential top end starting CB so there's that.

Yeah I mean the kid was a true shutdown corner last year. Like a 30 passer rating against and only gave up like 14 receptions. His play was elite.

The knocks on him were, well he doesn't look super fast or big. But he came in at the combine over 6 foot and then ran a sub 4.4 at the LSU proday. So that kind of puts those knocks to rest.

I don't want to draft a corner at 12. But Delane is absolutely that good and worth it. I think he has the ability to let us forget about starting corner for the next 5 years potentially. I'm not saying he is the next Deion but I could see him being a lot like Witherspoon or McDuffie.

Exactly. And the other issue is that if he's there he's probably the last of the top defenders left.

Yep, and the answer most would have would be, trade down. And honestly I want to trade down from 12 as well. But if Delane is there and I'm trading down I want premium value. Not below chart value.

I don't want to trade down from 12 if 1 of the big 6 is there. They need a premium player. I'd rather trade down from 20, where I doubt there's going to be much difference on defense between the 20 player versus 6 or 8 spots later.

If the top 6 are gone at 12 then I would love to trade down there.

Such a lazy, wrong complaint.
In the last 20 years the Cowboys have drafted 3 CBs total. And one of those was taken in 2008 when we had 2 firsts.

I agree, unless I'm getting a real haul. But then I see the Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins memory of two first round players in the 20's and I think I'm good taking Delane at 12.

I went back 30 years and we have only taken 5 CB s in the first round in that span.

The issue is that it was all clumped together in about a 10 year span.

Newman in 2003, Jenkins in 2008, Claiborne in 2012, plus safeties in 2002 and whatever you want to call Byron Jones in 2015.

So over about 12-13 years they took 5 DB's in the first, although they've definitely gotten away from it over the last decade or so.

We are talking CBs not DBs, so we took 3 CBs in 13 years (I don't count Byron Jones as a CB). Even nitpicking down to that you are only taking a CB every 4 years. Far from the DCC fable of CB whore status. NoDak is right. It's a lazy analysis.

It is but it was relevant at one time, basically during the 2000's with the Claiborne trade up being the cherry on top.

That alone is what stuck in people's craw. They couldn't let it go. But, overall, the CB whore thing is a myth.

I value ILB and OLB/Edge over a CB. I am the original CB whore, so this is new for me, but I don’t think our top 3 CBs are terrible and I trust Parker to fix the back end with coaching and scheme. Durant was an underrated signing. Downs is the only safety I’d take in the first, I’m moving off of Thienemen as a first round consideration.

The value in Thieneman in my opinion is he can basically function as a slot CB in Parker's scheme while also being able to play traditional safety roles, similar to Downs.
