MLB Chatter Thread

Their start is very surprising to me. They are another team that has been building and has some talent but I didn't think they had the pitching to compete. Ultimately over the long haul of the season I still don't think they probably do, but they are getting it done right now. Ervin Santana is going to turn back into a pumpkin very soon. He isn't nearly this good.
Oh, I have no doubt that they'll fade eventually. The pitching just isn't there yet. But I'm happy that the young guys are learning to win. And the biggest thing I'll be watching all year is the development of Jose Berrios. So far, he's 3-0 in three starts and has looked pretty sharp. 1.66 ERA with 8 hits given up in 21.2 innings. 22 K 4 BB. He gave up 3 solo HRs yesterday, but got the 4-3 win.

If the team can finish around .500 or maybe even a little better, I'll be happy. Pretty nice improvement coming off a 103 loss year.

I took closer Brandon Kintzler very late in my FBB draft. All the analysts said there was no way he was going to hold onto that job and maybe he'll crater, but he has been outstanding in that role going back to last season, despite not having "closer stuff".
That dude scares the fuck out of me every time he takes the mound. He's a pitch to contact sinkerballer. But yeah, he has done surprisingly well. But his best role would be as a 7th-8th inning set up guy.

I've about given up hoping that Glen Perkins will ever make it back. Was wanting to see them try to convert Trevor May into a closer this year, but he's out after Tommy John surgery. He's a power pitcher with a nice breaking ball. I could see him doing well there.

Berrios looks fantastic. Definitely a guy for Twins fans to be excited about. Sano is flat out crushing baseballs this year too. Because of his contact issues I am starting to really doubt that Buxton is ever going to be the superstar he was projected to be but he has enough tools to where if he can even develop into a league average hitter he will be a real asset. Lots of reasons for optimism in Minnesota right now.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed in Buxton so far offensively. When he relaxes and tries to use the whole field, he seems to do better. But he gets pull happy and for some reason is too stupidly stubborn to realize he doesn't have to crush everything.

If he can figure out his troubles at the plate and even be a .265 hitter, he'd be an all star. That dude is already looking like a HOFer defensively. Might need to start giving the wall a little more respect, though. He might kill himself one of these days.

Hell, .240 might make him an All Star. Look at Billy Hamilton...he can barely make it above the Mendoza Line and he impacts every game in multiple ways. I don't see why Buxton can't do the same.

He does seem to make a highlight reel catch each game. He seems equally adept at coming in, going back, or going to his left or right to make the catch. But I think his biggest asset is how fast he cuts hits off in the gap. He has already cut off countless doubles, making them into singles. A plus arm is nice, too.

His speed on the base paths is awesome, too. You can see how pitchers are nervous and try to hurry their delivery when he's on base. But he still needs to read pitchers and get better jumps on his steal attempts. Right now, he's relying too much on speed.

I know I was probably expecting too much when he came up. A .300 avg with power to go along with that speed and defense...? No? Fuck. Oh well.

Jason Heyward had a straight up miserable season at the plate last year. He was completely broken and his numbers were just terrible. He still ended the year with a 1.5 WAR because his defense in RF is so outstanding. Obviously you don't want a guy making that kind of money with just a 1.5 WAR, but considering how bad he was at the plate it is fairly impressive that he was able to avoid having a negative WAR.

Fortunately he looks like he has kind of figured it out at the plate this season and I expect his numbers to end up in the range they were in 2014/2015. He is never going to live up to his contract but will most likely end up with a WAR around 5 by being a slightly above average hitter with a plus plus glove.

Woah.

This is just sad on so many different levels.

Trying to throw your helmet at the pitcher while charging the mound is gay. Failing this miserably only confirms it.

I have finally accepted that an Adam Dunn comparison would be the high end for Gallo. He still has crazy power and almost half of his major league hits are homers. Looks like this is all I'm going to have to look forward to this summer.

:lol

It's sort of sad how much the pitcher flinched from that throw as well. Just embarrassing all around.

Alber Pujols hits HR 600 in style, smashing a grand slam against my Twins.

Props, you dick.

I am now no longer talking to Kenneth. Matter of fact, your on ignore, pal!
