Cowboys Trade for Joe Milton

I will say by all sounds of it Patriots fans aren't happy about the trade. And even the report that they had a better offer for Milton is promising. The Patriots kind of did the right thing by Milton from all accounts which is cool but also tells me that other teams thought something of Milton as well. Plus Milton actually wanted to come to Dallas so he will probably fit in well.

That's not to say he is going to be any good but at least it feels better than the Lance trade.

I like the Milton trade but it just seems like everything else that’s done around here…ass backwards. Giving up a 4th for a useless WR. No big FA signings…again. No big money spent on talent that could change the trajectory of the upcoming season.

You would think that with the money, all the hype and trades, that the cards would have somehow fallen in place and we would have played in a couple championship games over the last 10 years. Just about every other NFL team has.

The ineptness in the FO is worse than any of us actually believe or know and added in with Jerry’s narcissistic tendencies and Rosie’s cluelessness about seemingly everything these days, it’s a bleak future for sure.

It really is a shame.

Yep, and there’s a good chance that if this guy can play, he’ll still be under contract when Dak is done. And I think that could be any season now. Guy’s legs are falling apart.

Either way I'm sure we will get to find out. Odds are not in favor of Dak playing a full 17 games. And if he does, at least we aren't on some tight time schedule where if Milton doesn't play this year he leaves in free agency. We will have the time and the snaps to actually evaluate him.

And even if it ends in disaster I'm ok with it. Because disaster really means Dak gets hurt, Milton sucks and we end up with a high draft pick in a position to realize that we need to be thinking beyond Dak.

One last note about Milton, I appreciate his celebration. He enjoys doing backflips, I did not know this until today.

The Bills game definitely had some impressive throws.

The game certainly doesn't seem too big for him. Seems to have a decent arm and some speed.

He could be another Retarder I suppose. Let’s hope Jerry didn’t personally scout him.

Even if he only develops into a reliable backup who can win a few games in a pinch like Rush the trade is already a win.

He has the potential to be a starter but even if that never happens I'd be happy with a dependable backup on a rookie deal for a 6.

Yeah three years of cheap and stable backup would be a good thing as well. But I do at least see the upside here. He has elite arm strength and is athletic. That may mean he could be flipped for more down the road, it may mean good backup or maybe even a slight chance that he develops into a starting NFL QB for when Dak's body gives out.

He boringly won quite a few games for a backup, though.

He did. Just enough damn games to have us picking 12th in this draft. And for one or two games in a season where your QB has some minor injury I see the value in it. Beyond that it seems unproductive for a team.

Most of that was because our defense decided to get their heads out of their asses over the back half of the season.

And ruined our chances at Jeanty, Hunter, Carter and Graham. But he did win some games.

But we didn't have that before him. During the era of he-who-shall-not-be-named, backup QB = autoloss, and there were times when a win was desperately needed. A functional organization would prioritize competent backup QB play. I mean, Jameis is exciting, but I will take a Cooper Rush bus driver win any day of the week.
