No idea what happened to the other thread but we sent a 5 for Milton and a 7.

Sorry guys, when to do a thread cleanup deleted Simp's original double post and went into full thread rebuild.

Meh, I actually don't like it. Dude was a sixth round pick last year. What exactly has he done to show he is anything better than a sixth round pick? I'm not upset per say, just don't see anything to be excited about either.

One less pick in the fifth to take advantage of the depth at RB and Dline. Feels like just giving away a fifth round pick for no reason.

It is pretty likely we would have picked a QB in that range anyways. So you evaluate Milton alongside guys like McCord, Gabriel, Howard and Leonard.

We got a 7th back, so ultimately we basically just gave them their 6th back.

He played well in their season finale against backups (although playing on the Pats last year you're inherently already playing with backups yourself) and is cheap for the next 3 years.

It's fine for a backup who might have some potential, and we didn't give up a 4th like we did for Lance, but the biggest benefit that I'm hoping for is that it means we ignore QB in the draft until day 3 or completely.

I like McCord and Howard waaaaaay more.

I also evaluate this as, why would the Patriots give him away for a fifth if they liked him after his rookie year. It's not like the Pats have their QB situation figured out.

I don't like having one less fifth round pick to get a good player. The fifth has been a good round for us. Like you can find starters there.

Luckily we didn't have a fourth to be able to trade. But why does this team always seem scared to use multiple picks in a round? And that could have also been ammo to actually go up and get a fourth round pick.

Anyway I digress, it's a minor move. One that I don't think will work out. But here is hoping that the Pats were so confused they traded us a good young QB.

And unlike Milton, who's stuck behind Dak, a non-QB in the 5th is more likely to see the field.

Exactly. Odds are low, but still, Bland was a 5th rounder, so it can happen. I don't like just giving those away. Feels like they value them less because we have extra ones, which doesn't make sense to me.

There was a decent chance we were going to use a 5th or earlier on a QB. I don't think this is an awesome deal or anything but this isn't worse than using a 5th in this year's draft for a QB, especially if Milton is a better prospect than who they might have drafted (plus we didn't actually lose a pick in the draft we essentially traded down).

Then sign a vet instead of throwing away a pick on a maybe?
Vets cost too many pieleafs. Rookie 5th rounders are cheaper. #rosielogic
