Cowboys Trade for Joe Milton

All I can say is that this draft does not look so great by the time you get to that round, especially in this QB rookie class. I don’t think we were in a position to take one any earlier.

My biggest complaint about the fifth would be that we actually might be able to still get a pretty good RB in that spot depending on how things fall. But we're fairly likely to take one earlier and not take another one anyway so it's probably moot.

Yeah there are a couple QBs I like. But my guess is they will be gone by the time our comp fifth came up. So I get that. And Tyler Shough is basically a white Milton with injury history. So unless I would have gotten McCord or Howard in the fifth, I don't know if I would have drafted one. I'm not a fan at all of Milroe, Ewers or Gabriel. And Ward, Sanders and Dart were always out of reach without a first/second round pick.

So anyway, it's ok. We have gone from 4 fifth round picks down to 2 this offseason. Just makes me a little sad.

RB and Dline. I would take 2 RBs in this draft. No reason not to. And the guy you get in the fifth could be a legit starter.

I also think there will be DTs/DEs who go in the fifth that could be legit. Most other positions I think will be pretty thin by then. But I still want at least 2 Dlineman in this draft. And so crossing off another fifth round pick makes it that much harder.

Also you could package 2 or 3 picks and move from the fifth to the fourth.

We’re going to out depth everyone with all these backups.

I'll be pissed if we only take one back in this draft.

But I won't be surprised if we do and Cheap Son tells us how Miles Sanders is that guy.

Depending on how the draft falls, we need a starting caliber back or at least one who can compete. What we don’t need is some gadget back otherwise we will be looking again next year in a class much worse. They need to draft to this draft’s strengths: RB, DT and Edge. And if that nets multiple picks, all the better.

Give me Rylie Mills in the fifth round for example. CJ West. Caldwell. Cam Jackson. Ty Robinson. Ahmed Hassanein. Sorrell. Gillotte.

I could go on and on. But frankly I don't know which ones will be around in the fifth round still. I just know that there will be guys I think on the D-line in this draft. And I would have happily taken a couple of them in the fifth.

I'd devote our day 3 to RB, DT and Edge. They will be the best available in this draft. Don't force a special teams LBer, depth corner or WR at that point. If they are best available then I get it, but to me in this draft, the easily best available with our day three picks will be RB, DT and Edge. Forcing the other positions for depth or special teams needs is just stupid. Go get undrafted guys or free agents to fill out your depth chart.

Conventional wisdom: Don't draft for need!
Cowboys: Hold my beer.
Sometimes for laughs and cries, I look back on famous shitty drafts of the past like the draft all the shitty CBs and hope one sticks draft of 2000.

The Retarder draft of 2001.

The we're so good we only need backups/special teamer draft of 2009.

:lol

What about the Matt Jones draft?

It is pretty likely we would have picked a QB in that range anyways. So you evaluate Milton alongside guys like McCord, Gabriel, Howard and Leonard.
Personally would have rather had McCord, or howard but who knows if they would be there and if they like the kid then maybe he is worth it.

We gave up another potential Seat Belt, Asim Richards, Matt Waletzko, Simi Fehoko, Bradlee Anae, Mike White, Joe Jackson, Ryan Russell, Ben Gardner or Joe Randle.

The best pick in the 5th in the last decade from this braintrust was CB Michael Jackson who we cut or Dalton Schultz.

You’ll change your tune about Asim Richards when he is starting for us.
