Main takeaways:
-The defense was just as bad tonight as they were last year, I'm sure they'll get better but it's no guarantee, and even if they do improve to the 25th ranked defense or whatever, it isn't going to be enough to finish above .500.
-Schottenheimer needs to be on the hot seat, we led the league in penalties last year and came out in the opener with 7 about two minutes into the 2nd quarter, the Giants came out much more focused and intense early on, even before the defense cratered.
-Schottenheimer's game management on the last drive before halftime flipped the game, calling a timeout with about :55 on the clock looking at 3rd and 5 on about your own 40 with three timeouts, and the other team with two timeouts, is moronic. Let the clock run a bit, run your 3rd down play and play for FG range, instead this moron gave them plenty of time to get into FG range even if we had punted.
The bottom line for me here is that unless the defense makes a drastic jump we're going to be looking at another high pick (Packers suck, so one of the picks will be high), at which point I'd very seriously look at going QB depending on how the class shakes out.
