2026 Season | Week 1 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Giants | 09/13/2026

Was it Brian Baldinger who said we'd lose this game in the trenches?

He was absolutely right.

We didn't lose in the trenches, we lost because of a defense (primarily pass coverage) that doesn't belong on an NFL field.

Exclude the Dart runs, which are more a function of defensive cohesion and communication than trench battles, and their running game was average.

Their pass rush got after Dak a bit, but not excessively, overall I'd say the "trench" battle was roughly even.

I’m more irritated by Schotty’s sloppy coaching and the ridiculous over-coverage of Nabers on defense.

Schotty is arrogant and the players follow that leadership. Even down to Jevonte acting a fool trailing by 14.

Hopefully this game was a wakeup call for this team and these coaches. Otherwise yet another wasted year.

The scheme issues were stunning. Eberflus sucked. But blown coverage after blown coverage and non-adjustment (to a swing pass to the RB! Witchcraft!), and zero run stopping…

Grim stuff.

The drive right before the half and the drive with the swing passes to the RB were the same thing, the Giants noticing a very obvious flaw in our pass coverage outside of the numbers and just running more or less the same shit 3-4 times in a row.

It was obvious in real time when they had noticed something and would just start running the same shit at it, and it resulted in immediate TD's both times.

These idiots just don't know what they are doing in coverage. I get that Parker is wanting to run complex stuff back there. I just hope that it's a slow start. Because guys just didn't know what they were doing at all.

I had suspicions last year that Schottenheimer wasn't an actual good HC and that opinion is only stronger now.

I think he's a decent enough offensive mind/play-caller, not elite but pretty good, but I think he has very obvious flaws as a HC.

I'd get rid of him after the year either way and maybe hope to spark something in the final 2-3 years with Dak, or if we're really bad enough just take a QB and start over.

Like if Neibors beats you fine. I'll take that 10/10 times over everyone covering him and leaving the easy pass to the RB open over and over again. Like that should have been corrected by the defensive guys. Instead they just kept doing the same shitty thing.

Yeah that flat defense was damning.

Also why does our offense always start the game with a run for three yards. An incomplete pass. And then a slant attempt!

Is that really it!? Jfc

I don't want to overreact to a week one loss either, but what's really discouraging beyond the obvious like a defense that put up no resistance and got physically bullied, is our history when attempting to bounce back from a really disappointing opener.

Rarely have we been able to have a successful season after a disappointing start under the Jones family when we don't have respectable coaches like Parcells or Mike McCarthy.

We have an inexperienced head coach who hasn't proven anything, while continuing to learn on the job, coupled with a terrible ST coach and a new DC who's in charge as a coordinator for the time in his career.

This is not the ideal makeup of a coaching staff you want to at a time like this.

If we lose to the Redskins next week, I think there is a great chance that this ends up being a losing season.

The Giants wanted to drain the clock and we played right into it with the same conservative ass start to the game on offense. That shit makes me sick.

The entire team came out lackadaisical and dicking around (penalties), and with the offense I think it manifested itself with coming out passive and just kind of sleepy with drops and such.

That's coaching more than anything for me.

I think the offense will be fine, we saw them kind of snap out of it in the second half, but the defense...

If we lose next week it's time to start hoping for a top 10 pick and a new QB, one way or the other.

I'm not worried about the offense. For all the concern about the Oline I thought they played fine against some really good pass rushers. But it's the concept of not using the offense to help the defense and the defense not helping the offense. You can't play conservative defense and compliment it with a conservative offensive approach. You're just asking to get your shit pushed in.
