2026 Season | Week 1 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Giants | 09/13/2026

At least we have a ton of picks in the 2027 draft...
If you’re gonna go all gloomy, might as well go all the way.

We will probably finish with a top 5 pick and GreenBay will hit a hot streak winning their division and a playoff game or two.

Then we’ll get to give our top 5 to the Jets and pick around 28 or so.

Main takeaways:

-The defense was just as bad tonight as they were last year, I'm sure they'll get better but it's no guarantee, and even if they do improve to the 25th ranked defense or whatever, it isn't going to be enough to finish above .500.
-Schottenheimer needs to be on the hot seat, we led the league in penalties last year and came out in the opener with 7 about two minutes into the 2nd quarter, the Giants came out much more focused and intense early on, even before the defense cratered.
-Schottenheimer's game management on the last drive before halftime flipped the game, calling a timeout with about :55 on the clock looking at 3rd and 5 on about your own 40 with three timeouts, and the other team with two timeouts, is moronic. Let the clock run a bit, run your 3rd down play and play for FG range, instead this moron gave them plenty of time to get into FG range even if we had punted.

The bottom line for me here is that unless the defense makes a drastic jump we're going to be looking at another high pick (Packers suck, so one of the picks will be high), at which point I'd very seriously look at going QB depending on how the class shakes out.

I'm not that gloomy... Packers will still suck.

I’m not judging anything by week one. There’s a lot of football to be played, and we knew the defense was a work in progress.

I’m more irritated by Schotty’s sloppy coaching and the ridiculous over-coverage of Nabers on defense.

BTW, I called this loss in our season prediction thread

If we think that's our savior we're in deep trouble.

I don't think he's a savior, but I think given all of the new elements on defense you need a veteran who knows exactly what he's looking at at all times and can get guys where they need to be.... And furthermore, a guy you can depend on to suit up every single week.

Overshown is not our future at the MLB position, and given his fragility, he may not even be the present.

I kind of thought we'd lose here because I think our HC is a bit of a shithead and the Giants would be on an upper opening the season at home under Harbaugh, but I did not think the defense would look just as bad as last year.

If not for that I wouldn't be worried at all, but after the Dak INT the defense literally couldn't get close to getting off the field, despite multiple 2nd and 15 type situations, and looked just as bad as the defense at its worst last season.

I expected it to be a work in progress but I did not expect them to look just as bad as the defense at its worst in the very first game. That is a huge cause for concern.

Given how this defense looked tonight, if we don't win next week and the defense looks just as bad, we're going to be cruising to 6-11.

Yeah that was embarrassing defense yet again. But I said from the start new system, all new players, it may take some time, especially with none of them playing preseason. But that was worse then I was expecting. No intensity just soft baby shit. And the offense needs to start out aggressive. I'm tired of this slow ass start on that side of the ball play conservative. Go get your ass a lead and put some pressure on the other team. Instead we always come out fucking around on offense.

The scheme issues were stunning. Eberflus sucked. But blown coverage after blown coverage and non-adjustment (to a swing pass to the RB! Witchcraft!), and zero run stopping…

Grim stuff.
