2026 NFL Draft Chatter

Please tell me this is the end of CJ Goodwin.

-- Me in January 2029, probably

That guy really gives me the red ass. Their ST coverages aren't even good and last I checked he's part of that. Every time I notice him I'm unimpressed and on top of that he's 82 years old now. Long past time for him to go.

I had to look up his age. He's 35 :lol. I am 100% certain they could find an undrafted FA who could run fast and tackle well, if they would just look.

Or just a backup corner or WR so we don't have to waste a roster spot on a guy who only does one ST thing.

It's funny because he's been here under several different ST coaches over the years at this point. Some years the ST units are pretty good, and other years like this year they're pretty bad. And he's been there during both extremes and the main difference is the coaching.

Apparently our special teams "ace" who we are overpaying and wasting a precious roster spot on doesn't make a difference at all and it's the coaching all along. Funny how that works.

He is a captain like leader. Of fucking special teams. I've bitched about what a waste of a roster spot this guy is for years. I don't see the impactful plays when I watch the games. He isn't even a backup level corner. Never has been. Not sure how you can justify always keeping this guy if you look at a cost/benefit analysis. Let him be an assistant special teams coach or something instead.

Can't even get on the field except in extreme emergencies. This spot should be reserved for guys who have a chance of making the active roster in the future.

I dont think we do anything significant at RB other than resign Williams. They will view the young rbs performance yesterday as a reason not to.

I think that's not a terrible idea though.

Blue and Mafah looked solid and you have a starter in Javonte.

No need to burn resources for marginal upgrades when defense is crying for help. I'd much rather use a fourth on a CB or LB than a RB, assuming the same quality of RB is available in the fourth as most years.

And the fourth round is traditionally a good round for RB value. But we already have that caliber of value in Javonte, and maybe Blue/Mafah as well.

So stupid. I can't believe they did that.

I do understand somewhat on Blue if he's that big a moron, but you should be able to get through to him before week 18.

And if you can't that is a big indictment on Schotty.

Well you have more faith than I do in the 2 young ones.

Im not advocating for the first rounders to be a RB. Just what I think they will do.

No roster spot available.

You know, just too much talent on our 53.
This has gotta be the year they let Goodwin go.

edit ...aaaaand now i see a whole mess of timestampin

I have faith in them to be classically decent as change of pace or backups.

We don't run the ball a ton. We are a pass heavy offense. It just doesn't make sense to invest heavily to have an elite 1-2 punch at RB.

We can't go into a season with Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis. UDFA trash.

Javonte is actually good. Blue, well, he looked good yesterday. So did Mafah. And we've literally poured assets into the OL, so we should be able to get better results with less invested at RB, since that is the nature of how the position works (the OL makes the RB look better and not vice versa) (throw back argument ftw!).

I think Javonte - Blue - Mafah is probably very solid next year for how we run the ball.

Ideally I'd like to add a RB in the 4/5 range, we definitely don't need a 1/2 there, I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked if he was there and if we took him given how play action oriented Schottenheimer is.

But why is that ideal to add one in the 4/5 range?

I mean, let me preface - if a RB we have as a Round 2 is there in Round 4, yeah, take him, but that logic applies to everything, every time.

All other things being equal if I'm projecting "moderate success," from a pick in Round 4 (like, he becomes a Marion Barber or a Chris Canty or Orlando Scandrick style starter, not that you find Joe Montana in the third round), I'd much rather find a quality defensive player in that range than a RB, based on our needs.

Right now those 4th/5ths might be too valuable. We only have 2 first before we jump to the fourth/fifth. I need other positions way more. We have like 1 DE on the roster for next year. Granted we won't be in that position by draft time but we need rotational guys all over the board. I'm not in a panic about rotational RB's when we just drafted two guys who should be capable of that.

Now if you see a great RB in the fourth, I'm not saying you should pass it up. Just that it's not where my priorities would be.

I wouldn't want either to be the main guy I don't think, but if Malik Davis can be a complimentary back, so could Blue or Mafah.
