2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

Nice signing. Started a couple years in the NFL. Has ball skills. Former fourth round pick with speed. I like this signing as well. Small guy who can flex to play on outside or inside.

Really?

I will admit that I dont know the player and only going off of what pundits are saying about their needs. All of the mocks make a mention of how the Rams need CB help in the first round and they let one walk? Even if he is just depth I would think they would keep.

In the end its not going to make me lose sleep. Just dont have expectations.

It seems he has played outside CB most of his career. So, we still need a slot, but we may have solidified one outside CB spot.

For the record:

Cobie Durant has played in the slot (nickel corner) quite a bit during his career, though his role has shifted more toward the boundary (outside) in recent seasons.

Early in his NFL tenure with the Rams (especially as a rookie in 2022 and into 2023), he saw significant slot usage. For example:

In 2022 (his rookie year), he played the vast majority of his snaps in the slot, where he excelled—PFF ranked him No. 1 among slot corners in passer rating allowed (around 48.4 on limited snaps).

In 2023, he was deployed more as a slot option, with reports of about 349 inside snaps that year.

Overall career splits (per PFF data referenced across sources):He accumulated 689 snaps in the slot over his four seasons with the Rams.
In contrast, he had 1,847 snaps at corner (mostly boundary/outside).

More recently:In 2024, he had around 132 slot snaps.

In 2025 (his last season with LAR), slot usage dropped sharply to just 36 snaps (including playoffs), with most of his work (e.g., 744+ boundary snaps in one report) on the outside as a starting corner.

This versatility is a big reason the Cowboys signed him—he can handle outside duties but also provide nickel flexibility in the slot if needed, especially in sub-packages. Many reactions to his signing highlight his ability to play both outside and inside effectively.

Are you telling me the internet lied to me? That's impossible. :unsure

This makes the signing even better. We really needed a solid slot corner, and from reading that it looks like he can fill that need.

I actually think he was his best in the slot. He moved to the outside in recent years with the Rams but played the slot as a rookie when he had 3 picks.

Plus he is only like 5'10" with 30 inch arms. I think the idea is Revel and Bland on the outside with this kid in the slot. And if Revel sucks or Bland can't be healthy he has the ability to be an outside starting corner.

4.38 speed guy...
Yeah, I was just going off of what I saw in that video. And he never had to use his speed. But, he did almost get fetched by Russell Wilson in one of those clips. Didn't look like 4.38 speed on that play, but maybe he wasn't running hard?

He was their best CB last year on one of the better defenses in the league. CB was one of the few positions where they only had average talent so that was an obvious spot to aggressively upgrade, but I don't think Durant was the main issue.

I think it was more guys like Forbes.

I'm going to watch some all-22 on him, especially in the playoffs, so we'll see, but either way I think he's a really good value signing who could easily be a solid starter.

Couple of remaining guys we should poke around:

Rasheed Walker, OT
Michael Carter, RB
Bobby Wagner, LB
Bobby Okereke, LB

Sad as it is, this is the best haul we have had in FA in a while (still not good enough, still think the Joneses are too passive and even unprepared).

Would feel a lot better about it if we had managed to sign Nakobe Dean.

That's the thing. If he was signed to be our best corner I'd be worried. But signed to be our third corner who can start? I think he provides great ability for that.

3 DBs added in free agency. The secondary will certainly look different.

No question, if you add Dean or Walker to it I think it's a home run free agency for us. Which for most NFL teams that's probably a normal free agency but for Dallas that's a big offseason.

LBer is the one thing left in free agency that is sort of the blinking light need. Everything we have patched to the point that if we go into the draft we don't have to take but absolutely can take on defense. Like safety, signed a great player but we absolutely could still draft a dude. Corner, we signed a good player but absolutely can still take one. Pass rusher, we got Gary but we absolutely could draft one. D-line, we actually somehow opened the position up to now being able to draft it.

LBer though is the one position left where it is like, we must get a starter in the draft. I don't know if our D-coordinator is just ultra picky about the position or what. But you'd think we would at least sign someone for depth purposes. I mean we just don't have any numbers there. But are also lacking a starter. Hell the second best LBer on the roster got moved to pass rushing OLBer if that tells you anything.

Are they gonna cut him? Would be after him, warts and all. Need a LB.

He will count 17.5 mil against their cap. He has a 2.5 mil roster bonus due today I believe. My understanding is he was a cut candidate that they were wanting to trade.

I like the player but 17.5 mil against the cap sounds pretty high for what he gives them. My guess is cutting or trading him saves most of that money.
