2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

We're still too light on the DL (DT and edge rusher depending on how you look at it) after trading Osa and Thomas, but I'm sure they'll make a move or two before the draft.

They've done a really good job with the secondary, which tracks because it's basically the only place they've made legitimate additions of starting caliber players outside of Gary.

No question, if you add Dean or Walker to it I think it's a home run free agency for us. Which for most NFL teams that's probably a normal free agency but for Dallas that's a big offseason.

LBer is the one thing left in free agency that is sort of the blinking light need. Everything we have patched to the point that if we go into the draft we don't have to take but absolutely can take on defense. Like safety, signed a great player but we absolutely could still draft a dude. Corner, we signed a good player but absolutely can still take one. Pass rusher, we got Gary but we absolutely could draft one. D-line, we actually somehow opened the position up to now being able to draft it.

LBer though is the one position left where it is like, we must get a starter in the draft. I don't know if our D-coordinator is just ultra picky about the position or what. But you'd think we would at least sign someone for depth purposes. I mean we just don't have any numbers there. But are also lacking a starter. Hell the second best LBer on the roster got moved to pass rushing OLBer if that tells you anything.

I wouldn't say "home run," but certainly solid if you add Dean or Walker.

I'd move it to "acceptable" from "mediocre," if they can add a guy like Queen.

Really?

I will admit that I dont know the player and only going off of what pundits are saying about their needs. All of the mocks make a mention of how the Rams need CB help in the first round and they let one walk? Even if he is just depth I would think they would keep.

In the end its not going to make me lose sleep. Just dont have expectations.

Rams have spent like $175 million on 2 CB's (McDuffie and Watson) this offseason and gave up their 1st rounder and more to get one of them. Must be old mocks.

Not an awful FA period thus far. Think they've added a couple defensive starters before the draft and some good depth.

Would like a half way decent green dot LB before the draft. Also, a DL to go along with Williams and Clark. Then maybe a vet RB on a small deal to compete.

And the Gary hate is funny. When the Micah trade went down and we didn't know who the name of the player coming our way for a bit everyone wanted Gary coming back. Well now we got him and Clark.

But that still proves his point that they needed CB badly and still let this guy go, which seems a little odd. Maybe he just was going to make more than they wanted to pay a backup.

Yeah. They were before the McDuffie trade and I didn't know about the other. Guess I have been under a rock lately.

There was literally no where to go but up. Before FA it was JAG city, outside of Bland with all JAG backups.

That's a key area criminally undermanned.

2 JAGs/3 starting CBs == No chance to win meaningful games.

You can cover up one CB weakness with a pass rush and scheme, but not two or more.

I don't like your constant dissing of Revel ha. And we're drafting a CB with one of our top 3 picks.

Awful. This is that one glaring hole that absolutely positively has to be nailed in the draft.
I would feel much better if we at least got one decent OLB/EDGE in FA. Makes me awfully nervous going into the draft as it stands right now.

Yeah, its really not optional any longer. I guess we could do what we did last year when we missed out on our WR target. But right now it feels like Styles or bust.

Nah, Allen, Golday, Hill...etc. plenty of LB options in the draft.

Oh I don't disagree with you. Just feels like that was kind of the strategy in free agency. So it kind of feels like the draft may end up the same way. But I very much like multiple LBers in this draft. CJ Allen is actually down my list a little.

But I also liked multiple free agent LBers. And instead it was the 2 Georgia guys or put it on the back burner.

There is good but not great depth here. Nowhere close to EDGE, CB, or WR.

Fortunately we have two starting off-ball positions, not three, in this scheme. Injury-prone Overshown is one, a JAG is currently another.

This is a key reason for why we need to trade down.

The top players Reese and Styles are out of reach. CJ Hall and Anthony Hill are next and should be late 1st and early 2nd. Guys like Rodriguez and Golday are going to be there in the late 2nd and maybe 3rd.

3rd and 4th rounds guys like Josiah Trotter, Kyle Kouis, Kaleb Elarms-Hyphen, Deontae Lawson, and Harold Perkins Jr. are all legit starting material. Starts to thin out soon after.

They did the exact opposite of what I predicted they would. I figured they would go heavy on the front 7 in FA and use our limited draft resources to go secondary considering it's easier to fill DB needs than DL and LBer. but I was wrong, apparently.

Given how FA went I think there's a chance Styles is there. I'd say there's maybe a 30% or so chance, but before FA I'd have said like 10%.

The fact that the Giants signed Edmunds, that the Skins signed Chenal and that KC lost both starting CB's makes me think there's a chance he drops to us if Miami and Cincinnati decide to go elsewhere. At this point I don't think he goes top 9 unless Tennessee takes him.

I actually think LBer is one of the easiest positions annually to fill in the draft. Guys go in the second and third round every year who become excellent NFL starters. I don't see this draft as any different. It's kind of like safety, should be a position that you can find relatively easy in the draft.

Now D-lineman? Gosh feels like a million of them get drafted every year. They take time to develop. And it's really hard to find one who is a real impact rookie outside of the first round. EZ was one of the best rookie D-lineman last year, despite what many of us consider a disappointing campaign. That kind of tells you how hard it is to draft for immediate impact.
