2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

Given how FA went I think there's a chance Styles is there. I'd say there's maybe a 30% or so chance, but before FA I'd have said like 10%.

The fact that the Giants signed Edmunds, that the Skins signed Chenal and that KC lost both starting CB's makes me think there's a chance he drops to us if Miami and Cincinnati decide to go elsewhere. At this point I don't think he goes top 9 unless Tennessee takes him.
Good points. Styles would be a home run pick if he fell and the only player I'd be willing to draft at 12.

Then it's even more imperative to trade down pick 20 down 10 spots and get another 3rd. Akheem Mesidor or TJ Parker might fall that far, but I think we can get Zion Young there.

Styles and Young by themselves could fix the LB/EDGE corps :lol

Then we'd have multiple 3rds to mine this deep CB class and pick up the best player left at 112 (and there will be very solid players there.

I actually think LBer is one of the easiest positions annually to fill in the draft. Guys go in the second and third round every year who become excellent NFL starters. I don't see this draft as any different. It's kind of like safety, should be a position that you can find relatively easy in the draft.

Now D-lineman? Gosh feels like a million of them get drafted every year. They take time to develop. And it's really hard to find one who is a real impact rookie outside of the first round. EZ was one of the best rookie D-lineman last year, despite what many of us consider a disappointing campaign. That kind of tells you how hard it is to draft for immediate impact.
I would agree in a normal year, but we don't have a 2nd and have a very late 3rd. So, not as easy to fill the type of LBer we need this year in the draft. But, it is a deep secondary class, which is why I figured they would wait for secondary in the draft. I think it is way easier this year to fill secondary later in the draft than what we need at LBer.

Caleb Banks is a really intriguing non-EDGE DL to me who will fall because of his injury history. Banks is a beast, an absolute 6'6" 327 pound monster with short area quickness and 35 inch arms, but his feet caused him to miss time.

If he's not hurt by a fluke camp injury in 2025 then he's a top 5 prospect, IMO. He worked to come back from that for the last couple of games BTW instead of just sitting out the season and resting on his great 2024 production.

And I mention Styles but it's entirely possible CJ Allen is coming to Dallas. I'm sure there is a comfort level with our assistant coach being from Georgia. Obviously the only two free agent LBers we pursued were former Georgia players. It would not shock me if our team sort of looked at Dean and Walker and said these are the only two guys we would want above CJ Allen. If we can't get them, we want Allen running this defense.

Or maybe Rodriguez or Hill or Golday. It's possible we love a LBer in this draft beyond Styles. And my mind just jumps to Allen because of the familiarity and Georgia thing. When the only guys in free agency we considered were both Georgia and familiar.

I wouldn't touch him until the 3rd, I like him a lot but he's now had multiple foot injuries, the latest basically happening during a workout, not even a practice or game.

Guy is hurt again. Supposedly got hurt at the combine.

CJ Allen would be one of the best players available anywhere from 19-31.

Yea maybe, Allen would be ok at 20 but at this point I don't see it as great value. Just move down 10 spots if you can, hope he falls and if not take one of the other guys you listed.

I totally agree with you. You've seen my comments about Allen. I'm really not that high on him.

But I have to acknowledge that our OLBer coach was just a coach at Georgia. Also lets face it, the Eagles were basically a pipeline for Georgia players to the NFL. We now have a defensive coordinator from Philly. So it just wouldn't shock me if the new OLBer coach says he is better than any free agent you can get beyond Dean and Walker (The Georgia connection again). Personally I'd trade down to the late first. Either take my LBer there or hopefully we acquire a late second round pick in the process and can target a LBer there in the alternative.

You can trade down and get Hill or the best defensive player that fell because someone else grabbed him.

This draft has plenty of shiny WRs and CBs that teams are desperate to trade up for.

Not having to worry too much about adding another DB is definitely nice. I'd be fine taking another one if the value fits, but you could argue that we now have 6 starting caliber DB's, depending on how Revel progresses.

My second favorite LBer in this draft is Jacob Rodriguez. Next favorite might be Golday. After that I've probably got CJ Allen, Hill and then Trotter.

And there are a bunch more guys outside of that who I really like. Some are undersized like Kyle Lewis or Harold Perkins. Down to my sleeper which is Karson Sharar from Iowa. Killer instincts, from a defense that produces LBers and oh hey he ran an excellent 4.56 forty and jumped a 40 inch vertical. I say sleeper but he is Kipers 10th rated LBer. Not sure if that quantifies as a sleeper.

I think Banks is a bust waiting to happen. Absolutely hate him in the first and fortunately with his injury we won't have to worry about it.

Yep. I bet we love Allen. I'd be thrilled if we take him at 20. And pissed if we take him at 12.
