It seems like he’s thought of as a Barkley/Elliott level talent.

Which, Elliott, if he wasn’t a lazy POS, would have been great for far longer.

Also it’s much easier to find a QB who works when you have a great OL, RB, and two WRs for him to play with from Day 1.

I don't think he is really on that level. Which may sound like I'm not high on him. But I really like Love. I just think he is being overrated as some top 5 talent. I don't think he is that type of guy. I think he is more of a 10-15 type guy. Not a workhorse but a great weapon.

I know he is being billed as one of the 3 best players in this draft. I don't see that.

Pretty much how I feel.
 
I know I have said this before, but I'm not taking offense no matter who falls to us. I don't care who it is. In any other draft that would sound like a poor drafting strategy, but this isn't a normal draft for us.

Speaking of LBer the more I dig into the class the more I like the potential options for drafting 2 LBers. A guy I find really intriguing right now is Red Murdock. 17 forced fumbles in 34 games is insane. He broke Khalil Macks record that took him 46 games to set. The guy is an absolute tackling machine. And also chipped in like 5 sacks.

Nice size at like 6'2" 232 pounds. His speed is only ok but I don't freak out over a 4.7 speed LBer if they have great instincts. Anyway, just a name for day three whose production is so insane to me he is hard to ignore.

Combine that with 13 by JRod and we have the potential of a nice turnover margin.

We need defense, we all agree, but our team has changed since the season ended. We added a starting safety, safety depth, starting edge, and starting third CB and NT, not to mention additional DL depth. And as everyone keeps telling me Shavon Revel might not be total trash in 2026.

Immediate needs have shifted to a starting ILB and depth at EDGE, DL, and CB instead of starters at all four. That's a big change before the draft, and there will be starting caliber ILB's available even after the draft.

But we lack TWO starting OT's. I don't know about you, but that is an important position to me. In so many games our combination of Steele and Guyton was total hogshit and if it wasn't for Dak getting rid of the ball as well as he did he might have gotten hurt directly as a result. I'm not saying "draft one in the 1st", but if Bain, Bailey, Styles, Reese, McCoy, Downs, and Delane are all gone then an OT or WR is prolly the BPA if there's no trade.

Williams also faded down the stretch as a RB1, and Blue and Mofo are nowhere near able to seriously back him up. We could also use an upgrade at TE, though that's not as pressing

Basically we have fricking needs everywhere, I don't care how good our passing game looked at times. This is a totally new year, and we can't assume anything.

The draft is about adding talent and depth in 2026 but (if done correctly) mainly targets 2027 and beyond.

It's not an ideal scenario given where our defense finished the year, but better for the overall talent level than reaching at such a high pick.

We still have pick 20 and then a normal draft after round 2.

It's not enough though. What we have now might not be enough unless we're dipping back into FA or the trade market.

Low key, I like McCoy better than Delane if he's healthy. Delane is the steady cover guy, but McCoy adds dynamic playmaking.

I don't think we can fix the defense without trading down in any case.

I'd trade pick 12 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounders. Even if they are late picks, that is the sweet spot of talent in this draft.

I'd trade 20 down to the mid 20's for yet another 3rd if possible.

That leaves us two late firsts, a 2nd, three 3rds and our 4th. By riding the draft, we could get Colton Hood, Anthony Hill, Malachi Lawrence, Deangelo Ponds, Dani Dennis-Sutton, and Austin Barber before BPA at pick 112, maybe Kaytron Allen.

That's not an overnight fix, but with our coaching, Quinnen Williams up front, the defensive trades/free agents, and a full season from Overshown, that is a huge infusion of talent.
