2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

I don't mind one, but I really don't want two DBs with those first two picks.

I think we definitely need another CB, and I would take a safety if it's the right guy (Downs or Thieneman basically).

I'd prefer an edge or LB but I'm ok with this given who it is.

There's literally no chance we go DB/DB with the first two picks, it's like these people ignore FA and the fact that the secondary is basically the only position group we did anything at.

Oh, I think there's a real chance.

Suppose Downs is sitting there at 12 but no other of the top 6 defenders are there. They're probably taking Downs.

And if that happens it think there's still a chance they'd take CB at 20 depending on who else is there.

I think they'll probably go edge or LB at 20 but I don't think there's no chance they go CB.

The Athletics' latest:

12. Dallas Cowboys: Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU

In just about any other year, the Cowboys would not pass on Love in this situation. They were faced with something similar in 2020 when edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson would have filled a bigger need, but wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was higher on their board. They made the right decision. But the Cowboys need defensive help even more this year, so it’s highly unlikely they’d go with Love here. Delane fits a major area of need, giving Dallas a Day 1 starting cornerback to pair with DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel and recently signed Cobie Durant. Had Delane been gone, this would’ve been an ideal trade-back situation. — Jon Machota

20. Dallas Cowboys (from Green Bay): CJ Allen, LB, Georgia

There were several top edge rushers to pick from, making for a great trade-back scenario if things fall this way next month. But inside linebacker is clearly the Cowboys’ biggest need right now. Allen would step in immediately as the green-dot quarterback of the defense. Dallas had interest in free agents Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker but lost out on both. Here, the Cowboys could get a different former Georgia standout to lead things in the middle. Whether they stay put or trade back, addressing the defense has to be the target with multiple Day 1 and Day 2 picks. The offense is a playoff-caliber group. It’s all about closing the gap from having arguably the NFL’s worst defense. — Machota

I'd be pretty ok with this although I'm kind of down on Allen after his "workouts".

Yeah, I do think that's a possibility, say if Downs is there at 12 (which I think could happen) and then they're set on a CB so they take one.

I still wouldn't like it unless it's after a trade down and they got another second or decent third.

Ye olde BPA draft. That’s one where you know teams would love to trade up for Tate. What are some of the offers you were getting?
That wasn't my mock. That was from NFL.com. :unsure

Yeah I named him months ago as a guy I could see going mid rounds who ends up surprising a lot of people. His combine numbers were disappointing though. He moves better and shows more burst off the line than those numbers indicate. I guess the 1.64 10 yard split isn't bad. But I was expecting better than a 4.81 forty.

He was a real impact defender for Iowa as a pass rusher though. Started out as more of a pass rush specialist and developed into a full time player. I'd be thrilled to use a fourth on him.

Another DE like that who had a disappointing forty was Mason Reigor. He really caught my eye at the Shrine Bowl where he was unstoppable. But again, great 10 yard split at 1.61 but his forty was disappointing. Must be a white DE pass rusher thing.
I’ve mock-selected him in the 4th+ multiple times

I think he's generally considered a late 1, around 25ish. A guy who is RT only usually doesn't go much higher than that.
Are his feet not good in-game or something? I haven't watched his games, but from what I saw he looked like he moved very well in his drills and he had the #1 athleticism score of his class this year. Obviously some guys are better athletes than players.

I can't see it, we already have arguably 3 starting caliber safeties and possibly 3 starting caliber CB's.

I can definitely see them going DB with one of the picks, and expect it really, but I can't see them doing it with both with the other areas of need on defense.

But we definitely need another CB regardless (although not necessarily in the first), so do you think safety is completely off the board for us?

If you're looking long term safety is a need due to Hooker's age. I don't think Locke is a long term solution as a starter. Maybe I'm wrong about that but even if he is there's basically no one else behind them.

I know people think I hate CJ Allen. I really don't. The workouts don't actually change much for me with him. I never thought he was athletic. I've always had him as a second round LBer in the same group as Hill, Rodriguez, Golday and Trotter. Any of those guys in my opinion will go between the second and third round.

CJ Allen is smart. He is reliable. He gives great effort. Is a really great tackler. I think he will be a good starting NFL LBer but probably never great. You talk floor and cieling I think he has a high floor but a low cieling guy. I just prefer Rodriguez if I'm reaching for a LBer at 20. And I might like Golday and Hill more because they have more upside. But I don't know if they have the intellegence level of Allen.

I think you'll see a defense that uses multiple safeties as much as you see multiple corners. And that's why our defensive coordinator probably views these guys more from a DB lense and less through a CB/safety defined role.

So yeah I think 1 DB is highly likely. I think you'll only see two DBs in the first if one of those guys was just too good to pass up.
