2026 Cowboys Draft Chatter Thread

I mean it's a good shotgun approach I guess.
?
Each of those seven picks in the first four rounds addresses a starting need or key depth.

If we landed that draft for real, I'd be doing cartwheels (and prolly break myself in the process).

Allen has been mocked as high as 10 to the Bengals. He and Hood start immediately, with he and Rodriguez knocking James to the back of the ILB rotation. Elliott might kick James to STs. Young and Jacas are rising EDGE talents without glaring weaknesses. Coleman will be our #2 back day one. I think Lee starts before the year ends, and Marshall should even get some PT (not hard given our poor depth at CB). Harris will also make the lineup inside at DT for a lot less than the guys we signed in FA.

I only wish the OT value aligned to the picks. I could have reached a few picks early at 92, but Coleman just sitting there was too tempting (OK, he's a pet cat), knowing he wouldn't slide to 112.

The equivalent of two 2nds for what should be AT LEAST a 2026 1st and a 2026 2nd round pick?? Hell no!

You're too caught up in the specifics of the compensation rather than the spirit of the question, which is, would you be willing to essentially punt on the 12 pick if the top 6 defenders are all gone, and take a first next year (in what might be a much better draft) plus whatever other additional compensation you deem fair.

In other words, is it worth trying again with an additional first next year in maybe a stronger draft rather than forcing a lesser pick or an offensive player at 12 this year if things aren't lining up right?

Don't get lost in the sauce over the specific compensation, that isn't the point.

Personally I feel like getting a second this year where you can maybe get a guy like Rodriguez or Ponds or Howell, plus picking up a first next year, plus whatever other compensation would make it a fair trade, might be a better outcome as opposed to reaching for Thieneman or Terrell or Allen at 12 and having nothing else to show for it.

It's all about the compensation though. You're trading the 12th pick in the draft this year for what is likely a worse draft pick next year (by the nature of it you're giving better talent to the team you're trading with and they were a better team than the 12th pick last year)

So even though you might be getting a better draft next year, MIGHT, it's more than 50% likely that the pick is worse in the first round.
So yeah, the idea of punting only works if the compensation in return makes it worth it. And a mid second round pick and next years first is absolutely not worth it.

Then make it plausible, or of course it’s a no. The compensation is everything. Who knows what our biggest need might be next year or how close we might come this year?

I’d rather have a lower 2026 1st to pair with that 2nd than a future random 1st. A guy like TJ Parker or CJ Allen will be there, and they can help us right now to pair with Rodriguez or Gabe Jacas or whomever we grab in the 2nd. There could even be more trades.

This draft can answer a bunch of our defensive questions. Maybe all of them. Seattle already showed a clear blueprint. You don’t need to punt to next year in hopes a star player becomes available. Help is available now.

I wouldn't mind throwing a 4th at this guy. But, @Cowboysrock55 has seen him more than the rest of us, so maybe he can chime in.

Yeah I named him months ago as a guy I could see going mid rounds who ends up surprising a lot of people. His combine numbers were disappointing though. He moves better and shows more burst off the line than those numbers indicate. I guess the 1.64 10 yard split isn't bad. But I was expecting better than a 4.81 forty.

He was a real impact defender for Iowa as a pass rusher though. Started out as more of a pass rush specialist and developed into a full time player. I'd be thrilled to use a fourth on him.

Another DE like that who had a disappointing forty was Mason Reigor. He really caught my eye at the Shrine Bowl where he was unstoppable. But again, great 10 yard split at 1.61 but his forty was disappointing. Must be a white DE pass rusher thing.

Kiper's latest:

12.

Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee

Dallas gave up a league-worst 7.3 yards per dropback last season, and the secondary was gashed for a league-high 46 passing plays of 25 or more yards. I liked the Jalen Thompson signing at safety, and Cobie Durant will chip in at cornerback alongside DaRon Bland and Shavon Revel Jr., but the Cowboys are still looking for their No. 1 cornerback.

McCoy doesn't come without questions; he tore an ACL in January 2025, sat out the season and then didn't work out at the combine. But he can flat-out play when he's on the field. McCoy had four interceptions in 2024. If Dallas likes what it sees at his March 31 pro day, this could be a smart pick.

20.

CJ Allen, LB, Georgia

It'd be wise for the Cowboys to double-dip on defense (Jermod McCoy at No. 12). They gave up 6.1 yards per play in 2025, 31st in the NFL and third worst for any team in any of the past five seasons. Allen can play all three downs, as he can drop in coverage, run down ball carriers and even blitz. He had 97 tackles last season for the Bulldogs, showcasing tremendous read-and-react skills.

Blake Miller is interesting.

After taking a quick look, why isn't he ranked higher? Very good athlete. Looks like he moves really well.

What a shitty ass trade.

I don't mind one, but I really don't want two DBs with those first two picks.

Agreed. We need LBer and EDGE way more than secondary depth that early. Take a starter with one if the value is there, and then pivot/trade down if you can.
