Because they know Jerry Jones and he hates change, especially the kind that requires that he actually go out and act like a real GM.

I think the best we can hope for is a new DC but I expect both McCarthy and Dak to return.

I just hope these stupid MF'ers don't extend Dak.

If you do that, I will return to my pre-McCarthy days of half-assed interest.
 
Yeah, I don’t see how anything gets better status quo. QB1 is in his 30s. Is he really gonna change and get ice running through his veins when the pressure is on? Dak gets extended and we get put out of playoff quick next 4-5 years if we make them at all.

If they just roll into next season without making any sort of drastic changes (DC doesn't count when Quinn is likely gone anyway) then I'm fucking out on this shit for a bit. I'll check in here and there but I'm not going to be spending much, if any real head space figuring out the draft situation, prospects, what they do in free agency and so forth, and I probably won't even watch many of the games to start the season.

What happened last week was arguably the most pathetic playoff showing this team has had in 20+ years, and if they just prance into next season running everything back (especially when there are so many strong HC candidates out there, which isn't usually the case) then it shows you how serious this organization is about winning.

No, he's never going to change.

If we're keeping him, the best strategy is to make a defense that holds opponents to less than 20 and takes a lot of the pressure off of him.

I think that was the plan this season but unfortunately the defense collapsed and it became pretty clear we needed him to carry us, which he's obviously not capable of.

Was going to say this to a @Simpleton post but I couldn't find it... :unsure

But yeah, the best hope would be to get someone like a Vrabel who could build a tough, physical running team that doesn't ask the QB to do much. Kind of like Dak's rookie year.

But that was with the best OL and maybe the best RB in football. I don't think you could do that again if you wanted to, especially with the QB's cap number where it is now.

And not that Dak is a diva, but I don't know that he'd accept that at this point anyway.
 
The best we can hope for is something completely unexpected.

Like Dak retires to be a full time dad to his new kid.

Sure, but I'd consider it drastic only if there is a significant makeover of the personnel, which I find very unlikely.

But at this point I'm not even interested in the subtleties of personnel/scheme changes. We are/were a top 5 team in the league this past year, the 2 seed in the NFC, and we lost by effectively 30 to a team that is significantly less talented and barely clawed their way into the playoffs.

Personnel changes can help of course but this isn't a personnel thing, everything was in place this year and the entire group (players and coaches) simply didn't respond for a variety of reasons. There needs to be a pound of flesh and it has to be McCarthy, some may argue Dak and I'd listen to that, but ultimately it falls on McCarthy when a team looks that unprepared, listless and scared of the moment frankly.

The way the game started looked exactly like the 49ers home playoff game two years ago, that's a systemic issue and something systemic has to go.
 
This loud guy on ESPN had a good point.

The Dallas Cowboys....the most valuable franchise in American sports.....doesn't have a top 10 HC.

Baby steps. We spent ten years on a guy who will never be an NFL head coach again to a guy who has won a Super Bowl in the last decade and would likely get another job. You can't expect everything to advance faster than a decade at a time.

That's dumb. Yes we do.

That doesn't mean you don't make a change, but he's top ten.
