I don't like this move but I don't hate it.

But we absolutely need a new DC, a new o-line coach, and it sure would be nice to not go with Dak again but I know that's a pipe dream.

I don't know about that. I think Jerry will demand at least a change or two on offense.

It's not just size, it's alignment, it's what you're asking your Dlineman to do. It's about bullying guys upfront instead of trying to run around everyone. We need to be more physical in our scheme and less finesse. That also probably means having more than 1 real LBer on the team.
 
Of everyone who could return, this is the one that's most tolerable.

There's evidence everywhere of the positive impact Mike McCarthy has made on the football operations of the team as well as significant improvements on the offensive side of the ball.

For those reasons, I don't hate this move.

The reason why I did not want to bring him back is because I felt that a performance that egregiously awful made it to where there needed to be hell to pay across the board and nobody in a significant position on the football side of things should have survived it....but here we are.

Now that you've brought him back, what absolutely cannot happen is you cannot pair him with Dak Prescott again and you absolutely need to make significant changes on the defensive side of the ball in both coaching and personnel.

If you're basically going to bring most of the staff and players back intact, then what's the fucking point?

I don't disagree with this. I just don't think you can make Dak a 60 mil QB and have ability to put all the pieces around him you need. Maybe if he was a 10-20 million dollar QB. But I'm over having an elite paid guy not play elite in the playoffs. McCarthy has developed QBs before. Let him develop one.

But we all know Dak will be back, McCarthy is back and I'm starting to feel like we will just get a lot of the same next year.

There's a 0% chance Dak isn't back and maybe a 25% or so chance that there are "significant" changes to the defensive personnel, depending on your definition of significant.

Yeah, I've said before that I was impressed with Joe Whitt's interviews and thought he'd be promoted if/when Quinn left.

But now, I think you have to bring in new DC from outside and a mostly new staff, because you can't sell the same everything with only Quinn and a couple of assistants gone.
 
David Moore saying a big reason MM was brought back is the organization (I assume that's McClay and his people) saw Dak make significant strides this year as he saw and understood the game in a new and better way than he had the previous seven years. Obviously he shat the bed in the playoffs, but they're probably thinking maybe Dak takes another step next year in his second year with MM as OC.

And Jerry wants Dak to work. He's invested all this time and money and wants the payoff.

I get that, but I myself think Dak is basically maxed out.

I don't really know what Whitt is. I want to hear what these guys plans are to actually fix this shit beyond well, we will get better at LBer and have Diggs back. I don't think bigger LBers are just going to fix this shit. You need to be totally different upfront conceptually. LBers and Dline included.

Can we at least get a legit running game to help Dak? I fear with the same fucking Oline coach we are doomed to the same soft ass running game. Our run game was basically a waste of time all year long. And I don't think just drafting a dude at RB is going to fix the run game.

It's not excuse for Dak. But the easiest way to help Dak when he gets the yips in a big game is to have a running game that can get first downs. Did any defense the entire year fear our run game? Our run game was just so inconsistent. Maybe they get a 7 yard gain but then on the next run they would lose a yard. And again, no pass for Pollard but I don't think it was just our RBs at fault, although they were part of the problem.
 
Anyone think that if LVE and Diggs were healthy on Sunday, the game would've gone differently?

If so, and if the coaching staff remains in place (as is) which isn't a stretch, an upgrade at RB, a legit LB, along with the return of Diggs may be the hope (if any) of getting over the hump.
