Those dudes could run some routes and get open. I'm not sure what it is about the small white slot receiver but it's just a thing.
And Texas Tech pumped out half of that group.

He's definitely not an everydown guy but surely you could work him in on certain packages. The Chiefs have a bunch of small quick guys like McKinnon and Hardman and Toney and make it work. Not that he's as good as those guys, just saying they don't all have to a be 6-2 and 200+ for blocking or whatever.

and you saw what NYG bust like Toney up and did in the big game. It was pretty much the play that sealed the deal.

I'm all for smaller receivers who can get separation running a route and make plays. But one guy you mention is a 210 RB, another is a 6 foot WR. And Hardman well he barely played for the Chiefs last year.

With all due respect to Turpin he is what, 5'9" 155 pounds? Can he handle a guy bumping him during a route? Can he fight for the ball? Does he know how to get separation? Sometimes when you're that small a defender can just touch you and throw you off your route. The NFL gives receivers a lot of protection but DB's still jam, bump, grab and push them without penalties. When you're that small I imagine it's hard.

I do hate how the Cowboys feel like every receiver has to be 6'1" to be useful though. Hilton was our second best receiver and was probably the first sub 6 foot guy last year to get any legit snaps at the position for us.

Do people view Toney as small? The guy is 6 foot 193 pounds. Jalen Tolbert isn't much bigger. Devonta Smith is a better example of a small receiver. He is 6 foot but the guy is real skinny. Like 170 pounds skinny.

I don't think he's anywhere close to any of those guys

Yeah, the guy hasn't shown any indication that he has any receiving skills as a pro, much less to be in the conversation with some of the best slot receivers in recent memory.

No, he's not that good, but how can he show any indication when they don't even give him a chance?

I don't think anyone is saying he's some starting outside guy, but you could put him in motion or in a bunch formation where you can't bump him. That seems to be the kind of thing other more creative OCs do, but our Garrett 2.0 would rather run a double reverse jap play.

Maybe but the guy has played for the Glacier Boyz, Wroclaw and New Jersey Generals. It's not like NFL teams were beating down his doors for his receiving skills. He turned into a really good return man for us but maybe that's all he is. Not all return men are receivers.

Well he's no Noah Brown, that's for sure.

Here is what you need to do to become Noah Brown. Become best friends with Zeke, have Zeke tell Jerry to draft your boy. Hang around forever because you're probably a good person who is best friends with the Owner's favorite toy.

And yes I know Noah is a good blocker. But shit, a TE could give you about the same receiving ability and is probably a better blocker. Put that guy on the field instead if that's your goal. Hell a TE might be a better receiving option. I think Ferguson is a better pass catcher and probably Hendershot too.

Which reminds me, I'm not sure what the hell I'll do if Dallas brings Zeke back next year. It's just going to be sad and pathetic. And just a reminder that Jerry doesn't give two shits about what is best for the team in terms of winning football games.

1. Be cheap
2. Don't be not cheap

He’s a shifty guy you occasionally try to get into space for a quick hitter. Nothing more.

He telegraphs himself as the play’s target since he can’t block for shit and, oh yeah, you are one hit away from losing your return specialist.

That said, he’s really dangerous as a returner, and our special teams coach has to double down on blocking return schemes to spring him better. Oh yeah, and Kelvin Joseph can’t be anywhere nearby.

how many targets to Turpin have you seen? Makes it hard to know what the guy can or can't do. Maybe he's got a big bag of nothing, but I contend he hasnt had a shot to show anything. Once we can evaluate him, then maybe he can be a skilled smaller non white receiver.

I mean presumably the Cowboys coaches are watching him in practice. Obviously they were open to all options last year. Hell Dennis Houston started a game for shits sake. Hilton rolled off the couch and was our second best receiver. Not everyone in this world needs passes in an NFL game to determine if they are an NFL receiver.

Mike groused a couple times last year (in a low key way) about how they had stuff in for Turpin in practice but never ran it in a game. So it's not like they determined he was useless on offense. Kellen just never got to it.

It's probably academic anyway because hopefully we add another WR somehow and Gallup looks better, so we aren't in the same weak position next year.

based on that logic, you probably think Tolbert isnt an NFL receiver.

I don't think he was last year at least. Maybe he can become an NFL receiver but that dude needs to work his ass off with someone during the offseason. Sort of like that Oline guru Tyler Smith worked with last offseason.
