Random Politics Stuff Thread...

Trump won 2016 unexpectedly against an extremely unpopular candidate and by razor thin margins, since then it's basically been nothing but losses in terms of elections.

2018 can be discounted because it was the mid-term of a first-term President, but 2020 was a big loss in terms of the senate in Georgia and obviously the presidential election itself, and 2022 was even worse in the context of it being the mid-term of a first-term President with historic inflation. The fact that Trump-backed candidates lost almost across the board in terms of state-wide races in swing states is very telling.

The long and short of it is the Trump mystique should be long gone and the entire party should be wanting to move on, not just from Trump himself but "Trumpism" in terms of the flagrant election denials, general disrespect for norms, the blatant racism veiled as humor and so forth.

"Coco Chao", whatever that's supposed to mean but it's obviously some weird play on Asian tropes.
I have never heard that. What is it, who said it, and in what context?

Seriously. If I heard that I wouldn’t get race out of it. I wouldn’t get anything out of it. Sounds like gibberish. Certainly not something I’d classify as ‘blatant racism’. And I’m confused how this is somehow an indictment of a large group of people.

It's what he calls McConnell's wife for who knows what reason.

Generalizing immigrants, or immigrants from Mexico/Central America at least, as "rapists, killers" or whatever else such stuff is another example. Are there rapists and murderers among them?

Sure but it's a small percentage and to generalize like that is dangerous.

Mexicans aren't a race; they're a nationality (like Americans). If you can denigrate Americans as "fat, dumb and violent," you can denigrate Mexicans.

I missed where a sitting President or candidate described Americans generally as "fat, dumb and violent".

You're right. No high-ranking politician has ever described US citizens as deplorable, racist, transphobic, fascist, homophobic, white supremacist, extreme MAGA, etc.
Exactly. They get to demonize us but we can’t hit back. It’s bullshit and has now engrained itself into our culture. It needs to stop. If it doesn’t this is going to get ugly.

And Trump wasn't even slamming Americans, but rather foreign invaders. That said, his recent crack about Youngkin's name sounding "Chinese" was low, even for him.

All conservatives know EXACTLY what you are saying here.
Yeah, they get to generalize gun owners at every tragic shooting, but we aren't allowed that same thing.

If this was happening to Kagan or Sotomayors house you know they would all be in Gitmo after the first night

Not sure Trump ever said that “generally“ immigrants from Mexico or Central America were rapists and killers

He said that among those immigrants there are a lot of rapists and killers (criminals in general, really) coming over an unprotected border and that is a truth fact.

The thing about Trump is that his rhetoric is over the line but let’s leave the made up stuff out of it.

Exactly. So much of what he says gets taken out of context and then repeated by the media so much that it's just accepted as truth. Just like the "good people on both sides," fucking bullshit they still reference every chance they get.
