2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Wow... I thought he'd just be a sounding board type, but maybe not.

As Archer said, this is what they did to Eberflus when things didn't go well.

Nah, they didn't bring him in just to consult.

He's definitely going to play a huge part in both the gameplans and the gameday adjustments.

You don't bring a guy like that in after only 5 weeks and then send the current DC up to the booth just to play a minimal role.

I just wonder how much difference this can actually make at this point of the year.

I'm mostly surprised at this for Parker. If the defense looks substantially better after this, it's going to be really bad for Parker and his career. Makes me think things are even worse behind the scenes than I thought.

He had 7.5 sacks last year, 7.5 the year before. 9 before that.

Getting 6 sacks and decent run defense out of him seemed reasonable.

I expected him to at least be a good run defender and be able to contain the edge. But he just looks slow. I don't know if he lost a step or is out of shape. But when average athletes are outrunning him with ease it's a problem.

Just looking at everything said yesterday and today, I think this is the nicest way the Cowboys could let Parker hand over the reigns to Pettine and possibly learn at the same time. I mean they obviously aren't going to fire him in the middle of his first year, but I think it's pretty obvious now, he's green and in over his head. Maybe his communication with the players isn't great either.

I'll say this, we have at times had some real dumbasses play for us, but you would think someone over the last few years til today, has got to be able to get through to these kids on how to play their coverages correctly. How to play their stunts and run responsibilities. Maybe it's Pettine.

I'm willing to try anything at this point. I hate to waste a season of just hoping it gets better, when the East is so weak and there for the taking.

I don't think he can make a night and day difference -- that's asking too much at this stage.

But I do believe he legitimately can make improvements, especially in the fundamental stuff.

Fat Wade's defense in 2010 was atrocious despite that being his specialty. When he got fired, the defense was simplified for the rest of the season and it made a huge difference.

We still gave up plenty of yards, but we stopped being a total sieve and the turnovers started coming in bunches.

It's amazing what happens when you stop having guys out of place all over the field, and that's what I'm hoping Pettine's hire can accomplish for us this season.

Well, Pettine has a history with him right? So if the guy truly does have anything left in the tank, then we're gonna find out here soon.

….
Wow, I'm listening to Werder's interview on the Ticket this morning, and Ed says someone who worked with Pettine extensively as a HC told him, paraphrasing a bit but very close, "Wow, they finally hired a real coach. Pettine is legit. Dallas will walk away with that division now."

I did not see that coming.

Also that as much as Dallas tries to downplay this as Pettine being just a consultant, the sense he got from people who worked with Pettine was that the more influence he has, the better the defense will be.

I'm skeptical he will make that big of a difference.

Guys on the Ticket say Bland should be benched, Speed (who had a great game vs Tampa) should be starting opposite Porter, and Durant should be in the slot. :shrug
