Cowboys trade for Porter Jr.

That's EXACTLY what I'm thinking.

Bland is overrated and overpaid. If Porter has a heck of a year, I'd be completely in favor of cutting Bland and using whatever money we free up from that move and allocating it to keeping Porter.

There are plenty of medium/highly paid guys who we can cut before Bland, although Bland could be in the conversation as well.

Steele most obviously but also Ferguson and maybe even Gary depending on how the OLB situation plays out over the rest of the year.

I think that's ultimately why we made the trade. We just didn't have a corner on the roster that you could count on being able to cover a top flight WR. Not that Porter is some sort of an elite corner but he is at least a true #1 corner, or at least he was last year.

I like the addition but I always hate giving up draft picks. Even if it makes sense to add a guy now and lose a 50/50 chance of a successful draft pick down the road, it still hurts because I love the draft. But logically speaking the move makes sense. And honestly we have the cap room to extend him right now if we wanted. You have to figure there is no way we let Pickens and Porter walk in the offseason. So at least one of those guys is going to get extended.

But at the end of the day Schotty is still our head coach. So it also kind of feels like a pointless move if the head coach is going to shrink in big games and big game moments.

I agree. Ya know if we were somewhat normal in free agency I'd be a lot less worried about picks as well. I guess we sort of were this past year, but we really rely on the draft to build our team.

Watched the all-22 of every pass play last year of Porter against the Bengals (first game), Texans playoff game and the Lions.

So that's Chase, Higgins, Collins and St. Brown.

Porter gave up very little, obviously at his best in man but the Steelers played zone a good chunk of the time and he was fine, showed he can handle the slot against bigger types (Higgins/Collins) although I'm not sure you want him there against the quicker/more agile players like St. Brown.

Only real knock is he's grabby in a "they can't call it everytime" sort of way, and definitely isn't much for tackling.

Steelers fans seem to think they were robbed in this deal.
Because they were.

They screwed themselves, really. His value was highest back in camp. By waiting this long, they basically painted themselves into a corner.

I'm torn on this one. He is a good player who I think will help us, but the current personnel part is where it gets tricky for me. If we are at full health I'm not so sure CB is such a huge need with Revel finally getting to show what he is. If we continue to use Downs in the slot, this pushes Revel back to the bench once Durant is healthy. He will see some PT, yes, but not nearly as much. This trade just feels like you are in desperate need at CB, and (at least to me) that's not the case.
Prior to this trade, I viewed CB as our #2 overall defensive need

Bland, Revel, Downs, Durant are nice NFL pros who can all play, but none are distinguished. Not yet, and maybe not this year at all.

In today's game you might need to field four CB's at the same time on some plays and always match at least one elite receiving talent, sometimes two or more. Our pre-Porter group might get shredded by some of the better offenses out there.

Now all of a sudden our secondary can matchup with anyone-- with the potential to get stifling. Just like that. This one stopper changes everything as a ripple effect. Bland can go back to being the opportunistic guy who's not the focal point.

What a fantastic move-- that is if Porter is still good and not hiding an injury or something

Steele most obviously
