It's weird watching the White Sox and seeing the starters go like 3 innings.

Like it doesn't feel like that long ago Mark Buehrle was rolling through complete games like a work horse.

Just for comparisons sake, in 1974 there were 1089 complete games. Last year there were 29. Nolan Ryan alone was only 3 shy of the entire 2025 season that same year (1974) with 26. Now it's all about protecting players' arms and platooning for matchups. It's ridiculous and I hate it.

I agree, I just don't like it. I'm guessing there is some analytics involved as well that basically tell you that a pitcher is most effective in those first 2 innings. And so better to have 3-4 guys pitch a few innings than to have one guy pitch 7 or 8.
