2026 Cowboys Free Agency Thread…

Still not sure why you dislike Downs so much. One of the best safety prospects over the last decade. He was a top 5 type prospect all season long. Dude is an elite talent but you feel very opposed to him. But like I have said, he kind of helps solve the corner concerns and fits this defense perfectly.
If he’s there at 12, I’m taking him.

Yeah me too. I want to stack as many elite guys as possible across the defense.
Tough one... Both Styles and Downs are there. Who do you take?

As much as I love Styles and would be elated to have him, I think I'd still lean towards taking Downs. As awesome as I think Styles will be, he's still a MLBer. And we could still get a very good LBer at 20 or later if a trade down happens. I just think that Downs could be a game changer with all he can do. Think how disruptive guys like Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu were.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know there will be people screaming "Build the front 7 first". And I mostly agree with that. But if you get the chance to take somebody special that can transform your defensive backfield, that's where I veer. I think Downs will be that good.

I would take Styles. I like Downs but I really love Styles.

Well, he ran like a 4.6 40, so some of it wasn't an illusion. :unsure
I remember Parcells talking about him... He said one of his CBs --- pretty sure it was Everson after he went to the Giants -- told him that Rice wasn't that fast, but he had tremendous stamina and could run his 20th route at the same speed as his first. And Walls told him, "I don't have that kind of endurance anymore."

That is a tough one. I'm honestly not sure right this second which I would go with. I think they both have a great chance of being elite in the NFL. I want to lean Styles just because he is so good but also a physical freak. But part of me wonders if I'm just leaning that way because LBer is such a massive hole.

I can get a starting LBer or a starting safety later in the draft so I'm not wrapped up totally in need. But this is a question I could go either way depending on the day. Good news is I doubt we will have to decide between the two. We will be lucky to have a chance at either.

Hell, from what I have heard, the man could outwork any man on the team. The man just loved football, and wasn't going to let him being slow prevent him from playing it. In case you can't tell, and I know I'm gonna get raked for this, but he was my favoritest football player ever that didn't wear a Star on his helmet. Now, let the tomato throwing commence.

I do, too. I don't think we could go wrong taking either. Would love to have that choice to make. But unfortunately, they'll both probably be gone at 12.

If you would have asked me two weeks ago this same question, I would have 100% took Styles. But I've been watching more and more of Downs, and he's grown on me.

No tomatoes from me. I loved Joe Montana.

Maybe a little less after that horrible, awful play that shall not be named. Dude was just so damn smooth.

Tomatoes for both of you...

I loved Eric Dickerson but at least he wasn't a hated rival...

I like Downs but I’m not sure he’s Ed Reed level.
