The guns are a scary talking point. They lose that, what else can they use?

The party has had the White House for 12 of the past 16 years and can’t claim that four years of Trump and COVID did this shit.

I think we are lucky that with "6 conservatives," we'd probably get a 5-4 vote overturning any new assault weapons ban they tried to pass, but, that's a long process. They'd pass the ban, manufacturers would have to stop making or importing them, it would make prices skyrocket, etc. Then years later, an appeal might successfully overturn the ban. It's not something I want to see happen.

And the 90s were 30 years ago. Clinton signed that legislation. Since then, the Dems have controlled all three chambers a few times and done nothing. What most people conveniently refuse to admit is that it’s (thankfully) very hard to pass gun legislation at the federal level. It’s much easier to pass it at the State level, which we’ve seen in the decades since the “assault weapon” ban went into effect.

But to continually use that as a fear mongering tactic is absurd. And, when it comes to taxes, please check your double standards. I refuse to vote for Trump because he raised my taxes, and people challenge me on it. So, based on that, it’s even crazier to me that I’d even consider voting for someone who already did something negative to millions of people.

I know how you feel about Trump. I don't see where that has anything to do with the principle that something can't happen because it hasn't happened yet. Plenty of things throughout history have happened just that way.

Glad you're so certain it couldn't ever happen, though. Seems like an odd belief from someone who is such a firearm fan, but again, suit yourself. I hope you're right, but I personally wouldn't take that chance.

Yeah I get your issue with your taxes going up. I've always said, I'll vote for a President who will make my life and the people's lives around me better. Regardless of how obnoxious they are or how much I might dislike them as a person.

Trump absolutely did that for basically everyone around me and in turn my business as well. But I also acknowledge that if you chop off loopholes in the tax system some people will suffer while billions of others lives may have gotten better. I still support cutting off any tax loopholes that we can. And yes I do consider eliminating or reducing tax right offs as cutting off loopholes. Personally I want to get to as simple of a tax system as possible. But we never will get to anything that resembles simple. There is too much profit for too many people in the system.

I never said that it can’t happen again. I said that it’s highly unlikely due to how hard it is to pass that type of legislation at the federal level. I’m just being honest and acknowledging history, not living in fear. I always fear the states making new laws because they do it constantly, but it’s very rare at the federal level. My focus there is more on taxes and individual liberty. Hence, why I’ll also sooner drop dead than vote for Trump or Harris.

And your point is completely valid. I don’t fault anyone for voting for Trump based on your points if they were lucky enough to benefit from his policies. My family and I weren’t, so we won’t vote for him, because we won’t vote for anyone who will raise taxes or act fiscally irresponsibly, which Trump also did with the tariffs, as they caused price increases. So, for me, he raised my taxes twice. I don’t care about his immature and toxic personality. I care about how someone influences my taxes.

Dude. Read. Gun legislation is hard to pass at the federal level. That’s why Trump went full asshole and avoided Congress and unlawfully empowered the ATF to make its own “laws” when it banned bump stocks. Trump knew that Congress would never get that through, so he sidestepped the Constitution. SCOTUS then stepped in and told him to fuck himself and overturned it.

This is probably my biggest issue although it's an issue with most President's. They spend like it's going out of style because it provides that immediate boost to their popularity and a boost on the short run to the economy. They are only in their position for 4 to 8 years. So really they don't seem to care much beyond looking good for the initial 4 years. The second term they don't care as much about the short term success because they know there is no election for them after.

But that does fly in the face of what I want, which is as small of government as possible. I want minimal government spending and minimal government size. I want to cut every bit of fat off that shit that I can. Which in turn would allow the reduction in taxes and long term prosperity of the economy. Give me a military and minimal government. I don't need or want any of the other shit. Let the states handle that.

The absolute worst is when a President not only spends money but they spend the money to go over seas. Now you're not only not helping the country but you're also actively hurting the economy with your spending.

Yep, any time they're complaining about "political disinformation" and "hate speech" you know what side they're on.
 
Yeah, I don't know that I totally buy that. I get what he's saying, but Biden's numbers started steadily declining shortly after he was elected. In other words, it's not just about his sharp decline in the last few months and culminating with that debate. I think more people than he's admitting realize they were duped by the madness of 2020. Just look at black men's approval of him - that's much higher than it was.

In the end, it's mostly about the economy, and people know they were better off under him than the Dems.

Everyone knows Trump at this stage. You guys keep harping on the economy but it's inflation that's been the worst thing, but unemployment numbers aren't bad yet. I don't think people are in a spot where the independents are ready to "throw the bums out," yet, this isn't Jimmy Carter.

Too many people have a bad taste in their mouths regarding Trump.

We know it's all lies, but guess what? A lot of dumb independents believe all those media lies about him.

I very much think Trump has a ceiling. He was beating Biden because people were not gonna be willing to vote for a corpse. Harris is a bimbo but you have to realize that in today's society, they are getting votes based on a popularity contest. A modeling contest. Harris wins the "I look like a TV female president," contest and so she wins votes. She's getting enough of the independents in combination with her base, which would vote for a blue dog, to overcome Trump's ceiling. He has to win the independents and he's not.

And it's been relatively clear since 2020 that he could not. Re-nominating him was a mistake.

1. Inflation is the economy. Real wages have declined the last few years, and people know it.

2. Biden was losing popularity before he was a "corpse", or at least before he was truly put in the coffin.

3. The Republican party goes with who its voters want. It's not a top-down party like the Dem one.

4. Totally agree that people are stupid and the media blitzkrieg is tough to overcome. Unfortunately, propaganda works. But I don't think it's because Trump is as hated as you say.
